Not to be confused with the British group, Kaleidoscope comes from LA and was one of the regulars at the Whiskey A-Go-Go along with the Byrds, the Doors, Love, Iron Butterfly and virtually the entire LA scene including Buffalo Springfield as well. They are extremely versatile musicians and this album reflects that as well as their diversity of musical tastes. As you listen to this album you will surely recognize the diversity of ethnic style from Louisiana bayou country in 'Louisiana Man', the Irish ballad 'Greenwood Sidee' about a woman who secretly gives birth to twins and murders them only to encounter their ghosts later, the trance-like dulcimer and sitar of a mid-eastern 'Taxim', to the title song with all the psychedelia you expect with Mars in the title.
Check back seldom as I will be updating this particular review frequently until I have a more complete story for you. There are some audio clips you can experience at CDNow however none are from this particular album but they will give you the flavor of their sound if you're not familiar.
