Biographies:
Carlos G. Cortes
Carlos came to Canada in 1982, and became part of a folk group based in Edmonton, Alberta, playing wind and string instruments for a period of three years. During EXPO '86, he was selected to be part of "Canadian Heritage Festival" group created and sponsored by the Federal Government of Canada to perform the music, art and dances of the different communities that are part of Canada. Carlos holds a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Santiago, Chile, as well as a Professional Engineer diploma in B.C. Currently Carlos is pursuing a musical diploma through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.:
Fito Garcia:
Fito was born in Guatemala and moved to Canada in 1989. He joined Ancient Cultures in 1990, after playing for a period of eight years with Latin bands. During this period he travelled extensively with these group playing at important festivals across Canada and Western Europe. Fito studied music at the Institute for Superior Studies in Music in Havana, Cuba, and at the Vancouver Community College in Vancouver, B.C.:
Daryl Jahnke:
Daryl is a recording artist and producer for Lion's Gate Productions and has been a featured artist on recent releases by Kerry Galloway, Kat Hendrix, and Jerry Legar. Daryl spent a year performing in Japan with the Paul Jackson Band (bassist for Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters) and also worked with many of Japan's prominent jazz musicians playing in Tokyo.:
Alberto San Martin:
Alberto came to Canada in 1979. He joined Ancient Cultures in 1989, after playing Latin and folk music in Calgary and Edmonton for a period of eight years. Although his interest in music started at an early age, his professional music studies started in 1984 when he decided to enroll at the Grant McEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated in 1988 with a Diploma in Recording Arts. Presently he is arranging and writing music on a full time basis for various Latin American groups in Vancouver, B.C.:
Phil Belanger:
Phil has been active on the Vancouver music scene for the last 18 years, performing in a wide array of styles from Latin music projects to classical music with the Vancouver Symphony and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor's degree in music.:
