YARDBIRDS Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck - photo by Linda McCartney All Star Sessions with Jimmy Page
June 1965 - Jimmy Page's House, Miles Road, London
August 1965 - Olympic Sound Studios, Barnes, London

Sometime in June of 1965, Eric recorded a few (7) instrumental numbers with Jimmy Page [Born: James Patrick Page - 9 January 1944 - Heston, Middlesex, England].
Jimmy Page was the ace studio guitarist in England for many years and his (parents') house on Miles Road was outfitted as a small rehearsal/recording studio with the latest gadgets and electronics. It was a typical place for jams, as Jimmy had practiced there for years (pre-Yardbird days) with Jeff Beck and many others. It was he who suggested Jeff Beck as Eric's replacement in the Yardbirds when he was approached to succeed Eric. Jimmy later joined and then replaced Jeff and went on to form that monster of heavy rock: Led Zeppelin.

At this time, Jimmy was producing a group comprised of studio musicians called The All Stars (after Cyril Davies Allstars) for the Immediate record label. They recorded as The Immediate Allstars.
In Hammer Of The Gods, it is reported that both Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton were a bit upset when these recordings were released as they thought that they were merely rehearsals and jams, not outright songs. Nevertheless, they do exist and have seen more incarnations than there are grains of sand on the beach.

Roberty in Complete Recording Sessions reports that the original open reel tapes were sold at Sothbey Auction House in 1988 to an unknown collector. There were longer versions of these songs as well as outtakes. The tapes were thrown away when Richard Branson bought Olympic Sound Studios. Other notable recordings thrown away at the time were sessions by The Who and Jimi Hendrix Experience (fortunately these were "recovered" and have subsequently been released on bootleg recordings!)

The songs are:

Personnel:
The exact dates of Eric and Jimmy's initial session are uncertain.
The Rolling Stones members and Chris WInters were overdubbed in August 1965 at Olympic SOund Studios, Barnes, London. Thus they did not play together with Eric Clapton on these sessions. The iteinerary of the Rolling Stones during that period was thus allowing little or no opportunity for them to attend during the initial sessions. It's Only Rock 'N' Roll omits these recording sessions, but places The Rolling Stones at RCA Studios, Hollywood, California on 18-19 May 1965 and later on 6-7 September 1965. Presumably they were back in residence in the U.K. during the interim.

The following entries all highlight some or all of these songs.
In addition to the Clapton sessions above, there are other Immediate Allstar tracks on some of the compilations.
Also see the next page of this Discography for further exploitations.
