your calendars for Tuesday, April 4th, 9:30am Room 4203 in the Capitol
Bldg. This the day of the first hearing
of Matt's Law, this day is crucial to us. We need to show the Committee
that we are taking this law very seriously by showing up in force wearing our RED. I know that it is
difficult for a lot of you to get off work or out of school but if there is
anyway that you can schedule this day off in order to be there it would make
the most incredible difference. To have the Committee look into
the audience and see the overwhelming support for this law would
be amazing. It would be hard for them to dispute the importance when
the room is full of supporters that have taken the time out of their busy
schedules to be there. I would hope that it would also make it difficult
for them to vote no having to see all of our facing and our Matt Badges
with his picture on it.
We finally got some media coverage, Woo Hoo!
KTVU Channel 2 ran an almost 3 minute story on Matt's Law in the first 5 to 7
minutes of their broadcast last night, if you missed it you can view it by
clicking on the link below. Then send it to everyone you know. This
is great news and exactly what we needed but we can't stop there we have got to
keep working harder than ever. Unfortunately, as obvious as it is to
us that Matt's Bill should be LAW, it is not going to pass itself.
We have to keep it in the news, the Legislature has to see how important
it is to everyone.
They need to hear about it
all the time, they need to see it every time they turn around, they need
to realize that we are not going to go away because this is just too
important. We need to let them know that they are the ones that can make
a difference, they are the ones that can finally say ENOUGH is ENOUGH we are not going
to read another story in the paper or see another segment on the news
where another innocent young person has been maimed or killed due
to hazing acts while those that perform them receive a slap on the wrist
and are sent on their merry way after 30 days of road work and no one learns
the VERY IMPORTANT lesson that HAZING is WRONG!
If you have connections
with the press please do your best to persuade them to do a story
on Matt's Law. Newspaper, Radio, Television, Magazines whatever or
whoever you know if they could just mention it and send the listeners, readers
or viewers to Matt's site where they can find all the essential
information to make their own informed decision whether or not they would like
to support Matt's Law and how to go about it. I believe that once people
understand what Matt's Law is all about they will not hesitate to want to get
involved.
