Other characters are linked to the history of the Soul Edge as well, such as Asteroath, Ivy (Her father Cervantes especially) and Sophitia. But Nightmare is the center piece because he holds the Soul Edge. Nightmare I believe is not possessed by the sword from his decision, but by will from the Soul Edge. He slayed his men and the power of the Soul Edge only grew stronger, and Nightmare grew more determined to destroy man kind. In Soul Calibur 2 he formed an alliance with Ivy Valentine and Asteroath to retrieve the power from the Soul Edge. Asteroath is very important to this evil weapon because of the mission to retrieve the Soul Edge and send it to his Gods.

Ivy (left) and Asteroath (right) are very important to the history of the Soul Edge. They were even allied with Nightmare to revive the Soul Edge!!! |
Ivy however despises the Soul Edge with no desire to gain great power from an evil sword. And I mentioned Ivy's birth father (she was adopted) Cervantes, who is also a huge piece to this story. He was killed years ago, but fragments of the Soul Edge consumed his soul and brought him back to life. His physical presence is very creepy, with a cold like flesh and no pupils in his eyes; you would believe he was a ghost with a body. But he holds a Soul Edge that is not exactly the true sword, but it's connected to the True Sword somehow. His mission is to unite the Swords and become a menace to and living being. A very vile man who slayed all of his men on his ship. As you go in to the more in detail, this story just goes on, and on and on. Soul Calibur 3 will be even more intense with more evil strides, 3 new characters that carry 3 bizarre looking weapons, and the never ending battle of the swords.
Cervantes,
Ivy's father, is also important to the history of the Soul Edge. He holds
a portion of the sword itself, as you can see in his left hand! |
