Welcome To The Home Page Of Sgt. Blair

Here is a picture of Sgt. Blair taken at home just before he left for active duty.

Sgt. Michael Blair reported for active duty on July 15th 2004.  He left for training in Kansas on July 21st 2004.

On the following pages you will find out more information about the day he was called up to his departure for Kansas.  There is a page titled "In Iraq" that will remain under construction until I recieve information from Mike once he is in Iraq.  So please check this page often once he sets down in Iraq.  In the mean time there will be a page titled "In Kansas" where I will be posting new information from him while he is still there.  Please keep in mind that for security reasons there will be NO dates and times given for his departure to Iraq on this site.  I will post that he is leaving and activities involving the departure and that is all.  I will be contacting family and friends with the dates and times once I get them.

I hope you enjoy the site and visit often.  If you have anything you would like posted on the site for Mike to see, please contact me with the information and I will get it posted.  The page for this is titled "Family and Friends" so look for your stuff there.

Hello eveyone, thank you for visiting our site!  I have designed this site so that everyone can stay up to date on how Mike is doing in Iraq.  Also information about family and friends will be posted on this site so that Mike can see how we are doing.  I hope to post all new information as soon as I get it to keep things up to speed on this site.  If you have anything going on that you would like posted, please call me and I will see what I can do.

To start off telling everyone about how this all started, Mike's day went from bad to worse in a matter of hours.  When Mike got the call that he was being deployed, he was sitting in Boone in a work truck that broke down on him waiting for a tow truck!  That was around 2:00pm on July 14th.  Four hours later at 6:30pm he got another call, this time he was told that he had to be in Waterloo by 7:00am on July 18th.  Yes, only 13 hours notice to report to active duty.

On July 15th, 2004 Mike, Sam, caryn and I went to Waterloo to the 445th Transportation Company's unit where Mike was transfered for the duration of deployment.  We were to attend a brief ceremony that told us that Mike is going to be gone for 18 months and will be overseas in Iraq.  After the brief ceremony Mike was granted two days leave to get his affairs in order.  That two days was the last half of Saturday, all of Sunday and the first half of Monday.

Once we got home, I started calling family and friends to have them come to the house.  Mike needed to spend as much time with family and friends before he left.  Our house was packed with people coming in and out wishing Mike well and offering support to me and Samantha.  I believe it was near 1am Sunday morning by the time eveyone cleared out and we went to bed.

On Sunday, July 16th I woke up and decided that I was going to call the news stations to see if they would do a story on Mike.  I saw many stories on military families before and I felt that Mike should be one of them.  News channel's 8 and 5 both came out and did a story on Mike.  Again, our house was packed with family and friends, just the way I wanted it for Mike.  It was his last full day at home and he needed to be around everyone.

Monday the 17th almost ranked up there with the day he go called up!  We had last minute things to do so we were up real early.  As we were getting ready to take Mike back to Waterloo, the ignition system in our car melted and the car would not start.  By the time we got Mike up to Waterloo is was late so all we could do was drop him off and head back home.

Mike spend from Tuesday to Saturday staying at the Ramada in Waterloo and training and doing his job at the unit.  I think I made 3 trips during that time to take him last minute items and to spend time with him.

Thanks to Lewis Blair, Sam and I were able to spend the last night Mike was in the state with him.  Sautrday, July 21st Mike and the rest of the 445th Transportation Company left for Kansas.  They will be in Kansas for an unknown amount of time finishing up their training before heading to Iraq.
