Health Insurance!

Kids that do not currently have health insurance are likely to be eligible, even if you are working. The states have different eligibility rules, but in most states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger, whose families earn up to $34,100 a year (for a family of four), are eligible.

Florida KidCare is our state’s children’s health insurance program for uninsured children under age 19.

The Florida KidCare state children's health insurance program has 4 partner agencies:

1• MediKids  The Agency for Health Care Administration administers the MediKids program for children ages 1 through 4.

2• Medicaid The Department of Children and Families determines eligibility for the Medicaid for Children program.   Medicaid is for lower income children under age 19.

3• The Children's Medical Services (CMS) Network  The Department of Health administers the Children’s Medical Services (CMS) Network for children with special health care needs from birth through age 18.  Behavioral Health Specialty Care Network works with CMS to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment to children with behavioral health needs.

4• Florida Healthy Kids  The Florida Healthy Kids Corporation administers the Florida Healthy Kids program for children ages 5 through 18. Determines eligibility and collects premiums  The 2004-05 budget caps dental benefits at $750 with premiums of $9-$17.50.

When you apply for the insurance, Florida KidCare will check which program your child may be eligible for based on age and family income.  New enrollees are accepted for MediKids, Healthy Kids and the CMS Network only during open enrollment periods.  Call the Florida KidCare toll-free information line at 1-888-540-5437 to find out when the next open enrollment period may be held.  The Florida KidCare website is http://www.floridakidcare.org/
