Dana Liton’s life changed the moment a crazed man, wielding a gun in an art gallery, pulled the trigger. Determined he would not harm Gage Kelly, she threw herself between the man she secretly loved, and the raging gunman. In the process, she takes two bullets, which ravage her spine. A third shot is fired close to her face, blinding her. Two months later, Dana awakens from a coma in a medical rehabilitation clinic only to discover she can’t walk and can’t see. She will be able to walk again but only after several weeks of intense and painful physical therapy. As for being able to see again, she may regain her sight if surgery to repair the damage, is successful.

A tricky but well-thought out plan is formulated by the therapy team…Gage Kelly, who will now be called Simon, will be Dana’s emotional support as she fights to walk again, as she learns how to move about in the darkness that has fallen upon her life. Going by the name, Simon, he is introduced to Dana as a member of the medical rehabilitation team. Although she often mentions that Simon’s voice sounds familiar, he brushes it off and continues to be successful at keeping his true identity a secret. During the course of Dana’s treatment to regain the ability to walk again, even though she remains blind, she comes to love Simon, and he confesses that he has fallen in love with her. Simon lends to her all the emotional strength and support that she needs. He does many things for her. Simon even brings music, the ocean, and a sandy beach to her. She confides in Simon, clings to him, and curses Gage Kelly as pain wracks her body and threatens to drag her down.

Not all secrets can be kept forever. A hidden truth will have to be revealed. What will Dana do once she emerges from the darkness that had fallen upon her life? What will she do when she discovers who Simon really is? Will she accept him into her life or will she reject him for lying to her all the weeks she leaned in him and confided in him? Can trust and faith be recaptured? Will love be lost?
