Techniques
The Glide (Shot put) - The glide
has the thrower beginning facing away from the toeboard. If the thrower is right handed
then he/she will squat down on their right leg and extend their left leg back toward the toeboard.
When ready in position, the thrower will bring their left leg up toward their body and
violently kick out toward the toeboard. when they land, the back foot should be almost against the
toeboard. at the moment of landing the thrower will turn their hips and rip their left arm across
the sky slightly up and explode with the shot. If done right, the shot should go quite far and
straight.
The Spin (Shot put) - The spin also
has the thrower starting facing opposite of the toeboard. The thrower will squat slightly. For
a right handed thrower, he/she will pivot on the left foot and spin until the right foot is in the
center of the ring. At this point the thrower will pivot on the right foot until in the same
position as the end of the glide. Follow the same rules as the glide from here on.
The Spin (Discus) - The spin to the discus
is the same to the shot put with the exception of where the thrower holds the throwing object. The thrower
also takes bigger steps when he/she pivots through the ring.
Note - I wrote about the technique for right handed throwers
through all of this. For left handed throwers, just do the exact opposite. For eample: When the right handed
thrower pivots on his/her left foot, the left handed thrower would pivot on his/her right foot.
