How to Succeed
I've missed more than
9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been
trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over
and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
~ Michael Jordan
To be good at anything in life, one must practice.
The same goes for shot put and discus. A new thrower will not go out in the first practice
and throw the shot 50 feet or the disc 120. Months and sometimes even years of working at the
throws is necessary to show substantial improvement. How much a person improves depends on their
work ethic and discipline.
To throw the shot put, the thrower must have a
large amount of muscle. To gain muscle for the best throws, he/she should do lots of squats for
leg muscle, and lots of bench press for putting the shot. Also, lifts to gain power such as
power clean, power press, and hang cleans are great to do.
