Rockland District Jewish Committee On ScoutingHudson Valley Council, BSA
MISSION STATEMENT: To promote Scouting among Jewish Youth, to help Jewish institutions provide opportunities for Jewish youth, to promote Jewish values in scouting through our Annual Awards Breakfast, Scout Shabbats, the religious emblems program, and outreach to Jewish Scouts in non-Jewish units.
EMBLEMS & AWARDS: Requirements and Applications for all religious emblems and awards may be obtained from the Scout Shop or from the "active online links" stated below.
COMMITTEE PATCH: The Rockland District Jewish Committee on Scouting has a souvenir patch, as shown above. When attending any sponsored Rockland County Jewish Committee on Scouting (JCOS) event (e.g. Scout Shabbat, Religious Services at Camporee, Awards Breakfast...) each participant will be provided with a patch in remembrance of participating in the event. Initially, patches will not be available for purchase. At the end of our event year, any patches remaining will be sold for a minimal cost of $5.00 each. This is a great opportunity for patch collectors to expand their present collection and for Jewish Scouts and Scouters to show you are part of a great organization. If you are interested in purchasing the patch, please contact our Committee Chairman Debbie Klock via the e-mail shown on this page.
SCOUT SHABBAT: We are planning our next Scout Shabbat for February 8, 2008. It will take place at Beth Am Temple, 60 East Madison Avenue, Pearl River, NY at 7:45 PM.
CHANUKAH PARTY: We had our Third Annual Chanukah Party on Sunday, December 9, 2007. Our Second Annual Chanukah Party was held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Camp Bullowa Training Center. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouters attended and participated in the many games and of course, ate potato pancakes and jelly donuts. Hats off to Debbie Klock for a job well done! Many thanks to Jonathan and David O'Neill who created a game of Jeopardy regarding Chanukah related topics. The committee would also like to thank them for all their help in preparing the program!
AWARDS BREAKFAST: Our Eighth Annual Hudson Valley Council Awards Breakfast was held on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at the Camp Bullowa Training Center, Franck Road, Stony Point, New York. It was a great success! At this awards breakfast, we honored Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who have earned their jewish scout religious medals. Our guest speaker/presenter for this event was County Legislator Ellen Jaffee from the Town of Ramapo. In recognition of his years of outstanding service and promotion of Jewish Scouting, the Shofar Award was presented to Irving S. Schrom of Pomona, New York. The following scouts were presented with their respective religious medals:
