Paul and Rose Together Again

Author: mwitt87@yahoo.com

Setting: The Lakeview Bar/Night, Paul was sitting at the bar talking to Jack.

Paul: "Jack, do you have any contacts in Italy?

Jack (taking a slug of his beer): "Yeah, I do. Why?"

Paul: "Jack, I have not heard from Rose in months, I'm worried."

Jack: "Do you think something's wrong?"

Paul (take a sip of his drink): "I don't know what to think. I mean after everything you, me and Hal went through a year ago when my father and mother kidnapped Rose, Carly, and Emily. I don't know what to think."

Jack: "Do you think your father is up to his old tricks again?"

Paul (taking a sip of his drink): "I don't know what to think. I mean I wouldn't put it past him. My god, he tried to frame me for Brandy Taylor's murder. I tried to call Rose when I got out of jail but, there was no answer at the number ...(Just then Paul's cell phone rang): "Hello, this Paul."

There was a short pause before the voice on the other end answered.

Rose: "Hey Paulie, guess who?"

Paul: (getting a big smile on his face): "Hey baby. I was just thinking about you, where are you? How are you?"

Rose: "I'm.... I'm home."

Paul's heart nearly leapt out of his chest: "You're home? Are you at the airport? I'll come pick you up."

Rose: (touching her slightly extended belly): "Paul, I'm.. I'm not at the airport. I'm at my place. Could you come over? We have something to discuss."

Paul: "Give me 20 minutes."

Rose: (wiping a tear from her eye): "I'll be waiting, my love."
They hang up.

Jack (who was trying not to listen): "I guess you won't be needing my contact after all, hey Paul."

Paul: "Nope. Jack, have have to go."

Jack: "Of course, you do. I'll take care of the bill."

Paul: (getting up from his seat at the bar): "Thanks Jack."

Paul quickly cleaned up and raced over to Rose's place, trying not to go over the speed limit. When he finally reaches her front door, he was about to ring the bell when, Rose who had seen him drive up from the living room window opens the door and immediately hugs him. "Oh babe, you have no idea how much I missed you

Paul gently pushes her away so he can see her beautiful face, then takes her face into his hands and leans in for a romantic kiss. "Oh, I do know, because I missed you too. Don't ever leave me again for that long, I'm no good without you."

Rose, smiling away her tears, leads him into the house and to the couch where they sit down, taking his hands into hers, "Paul, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I wasn't here when you needed me. What you must have gone through, being accused of killing that girl. I haven't read a paper in months and when my Pop and I got back to Jersey, I was going through the mail, I saw the headlines and I booked the first flight back."

Paul reached up and wiped away the tears from her eyes, "Rose, I'm glad you weren't here, not with my father involved with this, I'm glad you were safe in Italy. But, now I'm so glad you're here, here with me in my arms. Now we can start planning our wedding. You know, both Emily and Carly are married, so now it our turn, even though we've been engaged the longest."

Rose, became quiet at the sound of wedding plans, turns away from Paul and says, "Paul, can we not talk about wedding plans right now?"

Curious why his fiancee doesn't want to talk about marrying him, Paul places a tentative hand on her shoulder and asks, "Rose, honey, what is it? Are you mad at me for not letting you know about the arrest? Baby, I explained all that, I wanted to protect you."

"It's not that, I understand all that but, you're not the only one keeping secrets..." Rose says as she gets off the couch and walks away.

Concerned, Paul walks over to Rose, takes her into his arms and says, "Honey, what is it? Whatever it is we can work it out. We'll work it out."

Rose gently pushes Paul away and says, "Paul, sweetheart, I'm four months pregnant."

Rose's Place

Stunned but delighted, Paul takes Rose into his arms, embraces her saying, "Oh my, Rose that is wonderful news! I can't wait to tell everyone, we definitely have to start planning our wedding and for the birth of our first child.

Rose, overjoyed at Paul's reaction, excitedly kisses him. "I'm so glad to hear you say that, I was so worried about how you were going to react to the news."

"Rose, honey I couldn't be more happy about the news. This is the second time you've made me the happiest man in Oakdale, first being when you agree to be my bride.... Come, sit down you shouldn't be standing in your condition." Paul excitedly said as he guided her to the couch and helped her sit down.

Yawning, Rose replied as she motioned for Paul to join her on the couch. Then kissing him passionately, "Paul, I love you so much! I want to get married right away."

"Have you told anyone else about the baby, Rose? How did your Pop take the news? I bet he's angry with me for getting you pregnant when we're not even married yet." Paul inquired as he grabbed a blanket from the side of the couch and placed it on Rose's lap to keep her warm.

Yawning again, Rose caresses Paul's cheek and says, "I haven't told anyone in Oakdale, my pop is the only one who knows. He's not angry with you, he knows you're going to marry me. He wanted to come back with me but I thought it might be better if he stayed in Jersy a while longer. I told him that I would call him after I talked to you."

"When did you get home? I've been trying to call you?" Paul asked as he stared into Rose's beautiful green eyes.

"I got in this morning and I was so exhausted I went right to bed and didn't wake up until an hour before I called you," Rose explained as she inquired as she tried to get comfortable, "Have you seen or talked to Lily? Has she had the baby yet?"

Kissing Rose, Paul tells her, "Rose, I love you so much. No, I haven't seen or talked to Lily. I talked to Holden yesterday and he says that the baby is due anytime now and that he would call me when something happens. Rose, he also told me that Lily is having a tough time of it. He says that her stress level is up, thanks no doubt to worrying about me and missing you. I pray nothing happens to this baby?"

"Paul, Lily is going to be fine. My sister is a fighter, you know that. Maybe I should call her or go over there?" Rose says as she tries to stand up.

Not wanting to let her go, Paul grabs her hand and says, "Honey, you're not going anywhere, except into my arms and into bed. You are exhausted and all we're going to do is relax and celebrate our big news."

Rose still wanting to call and at least tell Lily that she's home, tells Paul, "Paul, darling, I just want to let her know that I'm home, that's all. Then my love, I'm yours for the rest of the evening and forever."

Paul shook his head and insisted as he pulled Rose on to his lap in a passionate kiss, "You can call her in the morning or late afternoon, if you catch my meaning. Now, I just want the rest of the evening to be you and me. Now don't argue with me Rose, don't you know that it's not nice to argue with a man who just had murder charges against him dropped. Also, it's not polite to argue with your fiance."

"All right, you win, my god Paulie, I can never say no to you. But at least let me make just one call? " Rose pleaded.

Paul, who had forgotten his bride to be's stubborness, relented, "All right, one call but, after that my love, I'm disconnecting the phone, turning off my cell phone and taking you to bed. Who do you have to call, anyway?"

Rose, getting off Paul's lap, grabbed the phone on the table replies as she starts dialing, "I'm calling Jessica Griffin. I want to thank her for getting my man off the hook. Then my dear, I'm all yours."

Smiling, Paul told her as he gets up off the couch, "All right, you do that. I'll be right back, I forgot a few things in the car."

After Paul goes out to his car, Rose quickly calls Jessica Griffin. "Jessica, it's Rose D'Angelo. Did I catch you at a bad time?"

"No, Rose you didn't. I suspect you're home and obviously with Paul. What can I do for you?"

Clearing her throat, Rose replied, "Jessica, I just called to thank you for the brilliant job you did defending Paul and getting him cleared of all charges."

"Well, you're very welcome, Rose. I suppose he told you everything that went on and why he didn't let you know about what he was going through."

Rose, seeing Paul coming in the door with his arms full of packages, told Jessica, "Yes, he did, we have no secrets from each other. Look Jessica, I have to run but I just want to thank you again."

"Your welcome Rose. Tell Paul that I will talk to him later. And Rose, welcome back, believe me he really missed you."
Jessica said as she hung up.

As Rose hung up the phone, Paul came over to the couch and snuggled with Rose, saying as he kissed her, "So, did you talk to Jessica?"

"Yes, I did," Rose said as she brushes the snow off of Paul's hair, "What are all those packages for?"

Paul explains, "I wasn't sure if you'd be back for Christmas or not but I bought a few things just in case. I had Bonnie and Isacc help me with the shopping and the tree. Also, there two packages from last Christmas that I didn't have the heart to return."

"You know what? I've got a few things for you, too. They are stashed in the closet that I have to get out. But there is one gift that couldn't be wrapped."

"What do you mean, Rose?" Paul asked as readjusted Rose's blanket.

Rose hesitently answers him, "You know this feud that has been going on between your mother and I since we got together? I was thinking of burying the hatchet with her. I mean, she's going to be my mother in law and the grandmother of your child. And what's more important, she did do one thing right in her miserable life."

Surprised by Rose's change of heart, Paul asks, "Rose, where is all this coming from? I'm not sure I'll ever fully forgive my parents for what they did to us. What did you mean when you said, she did one thing right in her life?'

Putting her arms around Paul's neck, kisses him and answers with a twinkle in her eye, "She gave birth to you, my love. I owe her for that. Also, this is the season for miracles and new beginnings. I'm not saying that Barbara and I will be best of friends but, she is your mother after all and I don't want you resenting me if I don't at least try to get along with her. Besides, now that I'm going to be a mother myself, looking back, I don't think I would have wanted me as a girlfriend for my son."

"Rose, that is very generous of you, concidering everything my mother put you through. But, there is just one thing, you would never treat our son's girlfriend or our daughter's boyfriend for that matter the way Barbara treats you. As far as me resenting you, not a chance I would never do that."

Smiling, Rose replies, "Thank you, sweetheart.," Rose looking at all the boxes asks, "So, when do I get my presents?"

Paul, getting a little tired by this time, says, "We'll exchange gifts in the morning. Right now, all I want to do is, cuddle with my bride to be, preferably, in bed."

"You won't get any argument from me." Rose says as she gets up from the couch and leads him to the bedroom.

But before Rose could go too far, Paul stops her, scoops her up into his arms and says, "You're not walking anywhere in your condition....I'm going to carry you."

They make their way into the bedroom just as the phone starts to ring.

A little annoyed, Rose asks as Paul puts her down to answer his cell phone, "Who the hell is that call at this time of night? It better be important!"

Calming Rose down then he answers his phone, "This is Paul."

"Paul, it's your mother, I need to talk to you." Barbara told him.

Looking at Rose, who could tell who it was by the expression on her fiance's face, said into the phone, "Mom, what can I do for you? I'm kind of busy."

"By busy, I take it that Rose is back, am I right?" Barbara ventured to guess.

"Mom," Paul answers her as he looks at Rose waiting patiently, "yes Rose is back. Can we talk in the morning or is this important."

Barbara, trying her best to make her own effort to accept Rose, says, "Well, if Rose is back, then I won't keep you but I just wanted to talk to you about your little brother. But, if your busy, it can wait until morning."

"Mom, I know what you're doing or at least trying to do, and I'll tell ya right now, it won't work. So, just give me the abridged version and I will take from there." Paul said as he looked at Rose and put an protective arm around her

Taking a deep breath, Barbara explained, "Paul, Hal wants to sue me for full custody of Will. You have to help me convince him against it. Paul, he won't even let me have visitation with Will, he says I'm a bad influence on him.

Seeing where this was going, Paul tells his mother, "Mom, calm down, everything is going to be fine. Did Hal give you any explanation for what he's doing?"

Barbara, trying not to be hysterical, replied, "He says it stems from this past year, apparently it really messed him up. I mean, first I leave Hal for Craig, then the explosion at the boat house and I'm in a coma for weeks, then me being arrested, etc. And then I remember you telling me that he got suspended for fighting with someone at school."

"Yes, it's true, Will does deserve better then he's got from both his mother and father lately.", Paul very calmly reminds his mother, "Mom, look I have to go, I mean there isn't anything we can do tonight, I'll talk to you in the morning. Good night, mom."

Rose, realizing that, that phone call really upset him, asks him as she looks at him in the eyes, and kisses him, "Do you want to talk about it?"

Taking Rose into his arms and says, "We'll talk about it later, all I want to do is, make up for lost time with you. Besides, you shouldn't be on your feet this long in your condition and you look exhausted."

Paul trys to pick Rose up to carry her into the bedroom, but concerned that Barbara's call really upset him, stopped him, "Sweetheart, wait a minute, you're upset, let's talk about this. Other wise, it's going to be on both our minds all night and we won't be able to relax. Also, you didn't tell Barbara about our baby?"

Sighing, Paul told Rose as they walked into the bedroom and sat on the bed, "Alright, I'll tell you but then Rose, no more talking for the rest of the night."

Paul explains the situation to Rose and tells her that he will deal with the problem in the morning. Then he tell her the reason that he didn't tell Barbara about their baby is because he thought it might be better to wait until morning so that they could get some rest and then Barbara might be able to handle the news better in the morning.

"Alright, you won't handle Barbara's problem in the morning, we'll, the two of us will deal with her problem in the morning, together. I was worried that you were going to leave?" Rose says as they crawled into bed.

Paul taking Rose into his loving and protective arms and holds her close to him, assures her, "Not a chance, I'm not going to let anyone or anything, short of a call from Holden with a baby announcement ruin the rest of our evening."

"That sounds perfect to me." Rose says as she falls asleep in Paul's loving arms.

Rose's bedroom

Next afternoon, Rose woke up alone, afraid that the previous night had been a dream and that Paul was angry about the baby, she calls out his name, "Paul, are you here?"

Hearing the panic in Rose's voice, Paul races into the bedroom with a tray of food. He puts the tray down on the dresser and quickly embraces her, "Rose, beautiful, what's, what's the matter?"

Still shaking, Rose clings to Paul and said, "Oh Paul, I'm so glad you're here. I woke up and you were here I thought you left me in the middle of the night."

Holding her tightly, "Rose, I was just in the kitchen making us some lunch. I woke up a half an hour ago and you look so peaceful just laying there, I didn't have the heart to wake you. Why were you screaming?"

Trying to calm down, Rose says, " I was dreaming that when we told Barbara about the baby, she went crazy and she tried to pick a fight with me, to get me upset, upset enough to lose our baby."

"Rose, sweetheart," Paul says as grabs a glass of orange juice from the tray, "I won't let that happen because nothing is more important to me than you and our child. Here why don't you drink some of this juice, it might calm you down. Also, why were you screaming?'

Taking a sip of the juice, Rose tells him, "Well in the dream, after you told Barbara about the baby, she got angry about it, like I trapped you into marrying me. That way, in her mind I would think I could become respectable somehow through my marriage to you. Anyway, we started arguing and you tried to stop the fight but Barbara pushed me so hard that I tripped over the coffee table and fell very hard on my stomach onto the floor causing me to bleed. You rushed me to the hospital but it was too late, I lost our baby"

"Oh Rose," Paul said as he embraced her, "I'm not going to let my mother hurt you. You know I won't stand for her manipulations. Also, I won't let her hurt you or our lives if she acts the way you think she will. I also want to apolize again for not letting you know about the trial and everything, I promise it won't happen again."

Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Rose kisses him and says, "Alright, I forgive you, this time. Just don't let it happen again. I wish I was here though because then I would have given the Great James Stenbeck a fight he wouldn't forget and send him to the spa that he sent Emily, Carly and I to and turn him into a even older man. Nobody hurts the people I care about and gets away with it. Now on to a more happier subject, has Holden called you yet? Do we have a niece or nephew to spoil and to get ready for a playmate?"

"No, I haven't, I ...Paul started to say when his cell phone which was in his jacket pocket started ringing. He answers it, "Hello,"

"Paul, it's Holden," Holden started to say, "I have great news, Lily had the baby, she had a girl."

Smiling, Paul tells him, "That's great, Holden. Tell Lily that Rose and I are very happy for you two."

A bit confused, Holden asked, "What do you mean you and Rose are...you mean Rose is home? Why didn't you say that in the first place, I'll let you go. Before I do, I have to ask, did you tell her about the trouble you were in while she was away?"

"Yeah Holden, Rose is back and she knows everything. I had to calm her down a bit though after I told her. Listen Holden I have to go but tell that future sister in law of mine that we're very happy for both of you and we'll stop by later today. And Holden, don't tell Lily but, Rose and I have some news of our own to tell."

"Why don't you want Lily to know that you have news of your own?" Holden asked curiously.

Paul answered as he put his hand gently on Rose's belly, "Well, all I'll say for now is that you'll both be pleasantly surprised."

Holden agreed, "Alright, I won't say anything, I'll wait until you two get here."

Paul told him, "Okay, we'll be over later."

When Paul got off the phone, Rose curiously asked, " Why didn't you let me talk to Lily?"

"Rose," Paul said excitedly, "you can talk to Lily in person when we go see them and the baby."

"What? Lily had the baby? Are you kidding me, what you weren't going to tell me, that either." Rose said, pretending to be hurt that he didn't tell her right away.

"I didn't tell Holden about our baby. I wanted to wait until we went over there but maybe we shouldn't say anything right now, I mean I don't want to upstage Lily and Holden's news." Paul commented as he put the tray on Rose's lap."

"Sweetheart," Rose said as she grabbed a bagel and started to eat it, "my sister is going to be thrilled. But, she's going to be worried about how your mother is going to react as I am. Plus, she's going to ask us if we've set a wedding date yet so, I think we had better start looking at the calendar and set a date because I'm due June 5th."

"I've been thinking alot about that and what do you think of May 5th. Now that I know you're expecting our first child in June, it would make sense because we will have a month before the baby's born. Lets hurry (not too fast) eat, then go over to Lily and Holden's."

Realizing that Paul forgot about their second stop, she reminded him, "Honey, remember we have to stop at your mother's. She wants your help with the problem she's having with Hal? I think we should stop over there first to get that out of the way and then you can tell her about the baby."

"Honey," Paul started to say as he took took her hands in to his, "I haven't forgotten. But, you're right we should stop over there first to get it over with and you can relax at Lily's."
Getting out of bed, Rose tells him, "Alright, while I'm in the shower, you can call your mother and tell her that we are on the way over." As Rose quickly took a shower, Paul quickly calls his mother.

"Mom," Paul started to say when Barbara answers the phone.

"Good Morning, darling. How are you this afternoon?" Barbara asks.

I'm fine, mom. The reason I'm calling is, I wanted to touch base with you about your call last night. Have you talked to Hal about that problem you were telling me about?" Paul asked.

Barbara replied, "I talked to Hal this morning or should I say I tried to and he's still insisting on going for full custody of Will."

"Ah Mom, don't worry about it, things will work out. While I have you on the phone, Rose and I would like to stop by to tell you something. Well actually, we have two things to tell you. Also, I'd like to ask you a favor, Mom and I hope you are willing to try." Paul ventured to say.

"What is it, Paul? What are you trying to ask me?" Barbara asked.

"Mom, could you please try to get along with Rose. She WILL be my wife." Paul reminded his mother, "Rose is willing to try."

"Alright, for your sake and to keep the newly formed truce between us, I'll try." Barbara promised.

"Good. We'll be there soon, bye mom. Paul says as Rose comes into the room.

"Who was that on the phone, Paul?" Rose asked as grabs a sweater and jeans.

I just talked to my mother and I told her that we'd be stopping over in a little while. Which reminds me, there is something that you should know before we go over there." Paul started to explain.

"What is that?" Rose asked as she finished getting ready.

Paul took at deep breath and told Rose about the truce that he and his mother had come to after James was arrested. Surpisingly, Rose, didn't get angry, she just told him just to be careful and watch himself around her. Then they left for Fairwinds.

When they got to Fairwinds, Rose started to get a little anixious until Paul put a protective but loving arm around her as they walked to the front door.

They walked into the living room, where they found Barbara sketching. When they walked in, Barbara saw them walk in, she got up to greet them, trying to remember to be nice to Rose.

"Hello Rose, how are you? How's your father doing?" Barbara managed to say. as they sat down."

"He's better, thanks. Getting stronger every day. Thanks for asking. How are you?" Rose told her.

Paul, first looked and smiled at Rose, then looked at his mother and said, "Mom, I'm glad you're in a good mood because we have some news for you."

Curious, Barbara asks, "What is it?"

Paul looked at Rose, smiled, taking her hand into his, then looking at Barbara and said, "Mom, Rose is pregnant."

Fairwinds

Stunned but, trying to stay calm, Barbara asked, "What? Excuse me Paul, what did you just say?"

Confused by his mother's reaction, Paul answered, "I said, Rose is pregnant."

Not wanting to break her promise to her son but if she lied, and said that she was happy about the news, she knew her son and Barbara would see right through her act, Barbara looked at Paul and then at Rose, as she said, "Well now Rose, how wonderful. How long have you known you were pregnant? How far along are you?"

Paul looked at his mother in disbelief, she promised him that she'd ease up on Rose, "Mom, what are you say?"

Barbara replied, "Well honey, she's been gone a long time, then she comes home and tells you that she's pregnant? Don't you find that a little odd?"

Paul first looking at Barbara, then at Rose, smiled as he said, "No mom, it's not impossible for that to have happened, Rose is four months along. This child was conceived when we were rescuing her father and Simon in Avanya."

"Well, are you sure, I mean has she been to a doctor since she's been back? Is she sure she is four months pregnant?" Barbara insinuated.

Rose, not one to just stand there getting ripped on, spoke up, "Barbara, I would never pass off or try to pass off another man's child for Paul's. I would never, ever do that to him!"

"Maybe and maybe not. But you tried to pass yourself off as your own sister, why would it be so hard to believe that you would do something like pretending like this child is my son's?" Barbara insinuated.

Seeing how much Barbara's accusations were upsetting Rose, he wrapped his arms tightly around Rose, comforting her as he turned to his mother and said, "I don't believe you mom! I asked you to give Rose a fair chance and what do you do, you upset her! My god mom, how long are you going to keep throwing her past mistakes in her face! Do you want people always throwing your past mistakes in your face?!

"Honey," Barbara tried to defend herself, "I know you don't want to think about it but look at what she's doing, she trying to come between us. I am only trying to protect you."

"I'm not a child anymore, mom ! I don't need your protection anymore. Now I came over here or should I say, we came over here to tell you that Rose and I decided on a wedding date and to tell you that your eldest son and his wife to be are going to make you a grandmother ! I foolishly thought that when Rose came back, you and she could come to a truce or some kind of understanding but I guess I was wrong."

Hearing what he just said and thinking he was talking about her, too Rose looked up at him and said, "Paul, I was willing to try to get along your mother. I told you that."

Kissing away Rose's tears, Paul told her, "I know Rose, I know. But, my mother isn't willing and that is so sad that she won't be part of her grandchild's life nor will she be at her eldest son's wedding to witness him marry the most beautifu woman in the world."

Trying very hard to get her composure back, Rose told Paul, "Honey, I'll meet you in the car if you want to talk to your mother about her problem with Hal?"

"You know what sweetheart, I'm right behind you.," Paul said as he kissed her, "If my mother can't be civil to my bride to be, then she's on her own. Have a nice life mom, I hope you're happy, alone." Then he turned to Rose and said, "Honey, lets go, our business is through here." Then they left.

When they got to the car, Rose witnessed a side of her husband to be that she'd never seen before, the strong, stubborn, rock of a man, a man who had been so strong for her through many things, had tears in his eyes, she quickly embraced him, "Paul, sweetheart, what's the matter?"

Paul, then choked the tears, said, "I'm sorry, Rose. I never ever wanted you to see me like this..."

"Like what?," Rose asked as she reached up and wiped the tears from his eyes saying, "seeing you like what? Vulnerable? Like you need a shoulder to cry on? Darling, it's okay for a man to cry, it's not a sign of weekness, it's a sign that you're living and feeling. So, what's the matter?"

"I can't believe that after all this time, my mother can still be so cruel and cold to you. But, you know what, I'm not going to let her ruin things for us. If she wants to be that way, fine, let her. I've had it. Let's go see your sister and new neice. Then we can tell them our news, then we can make it a early night, go back to your place and be alone, if you catch my meaning?" Paul told her as he opened the car door for her.

"I certainly do. Are you okay? I mean, are you sure you want to leave this subject with your mother unfinished and end things like this with her, I mean she's your mother?

"Rose, my mother made her choice, so be it. Now she has to live with her choice. Before you say that you don't want me to have to choose be you and her, Rose I'm choosing you, the love of my life, the mother of my child. I have no regrets. So, are you ready to go see Lily and Holden's new baby." Paul said as he shut her door and ran over to the driver's side.

"Alright, let's go." Rose said as Paul started to drive to Lily's.

When Paul and Rose drive up to Lily's, Paul comes around and helped Rose out of the car. Rose looks up at Paul, who had calmed down on the ride over, "Paul, it's going to be alright. Your mother will come around, I know she will."

Taking Rose into his arms, kissed her as he said, "Rose, how can you be so forgiving after all Barbara has done to you?"

"That's easy," Rose started to say as her eyes sparkled in the moonlight, "I have you in my life. Also, I'm carrying your child within me and I will do what ever it takes to protect him or her and to keep you from doing something crazy."

Thinking that she is talking about his arrest, Paul reassured Rose, "I won't allow myself to get into that type of trouble again. Not when I almost lost the most precious woman in my life."

"Alright, let's go in before Lily thinks that we're not coming. Also, Paul I wasn't referring to your arrest, I would never keep reminding someone of their mistakes, you know that. I know you were protecting me from your demented father and I thank you for that." Rose said as they walked into Lily and Holden's.

When they entered the house, they found Lily and Holden in the living room, "Hello there you two, I heard you received a bundle while I was away."

"Hey Rose, you're home, welcome back." Lily said as she greeted them

Holden added, " We were beginning to think that you two weren't coming."

"Don't blame Rose, it was my fault, we had to stop at my mother's. Now let's see that beautiful baby of yours." Paul explained as he and Rose walked over to the bassinet.

"Oh Lily," Rose began to say as she gazed at her new niece, "she's absolutely beautiful. What is her name?"

"Her name is Natalie. Do you want to hold her, Rose?" As Lily walked over to the bassinet.

"Nah," she's sleeping so soundly I don't want to wake her." Rose answered.

"It's all right, she won't wake up, she's a sound sleeper, already. She has to be, what with Luke always running in the house, even though he knows he shouldn't and Faith is running after him. And Aaron, is always slamming the front door when he comes to visit so, you holding her, will be fine." Lily told her as she took the baby out of the bassinet. Then turning to Paul, Lily asked, "How about you, 'uncle' Paul, do you want to hold her?"

"Ah, are you sure it's alright?" Paul asked as Lily placed the baby into Paul's arms."

Lily said as she admired how content and comfortable Natalie was in Paul's arms, "Paul, you're a natural at this. I don't remember you having too much experience with babies, but then again it's been a long time since both Jennifer and Will were babies."

"Thanks Lily. It's true, it's been a while since the Ryan household had a baby in it." Paul replied as he glanced lovingly at Rose.

Holden, picking up something in Paul's voice and remembering the phone conversation of earlier, Holden asked, "Paul, on the phone, you said something that you and Rose had news of your own?"

Paul, looking down at the baby in his arms, then at Rose who smiled back at him, as if to say 'tell them sweetheart', " he looked at Holden and Lily and said, " Well, we don't to upstage your big news about this little one but..."

Realizing what Paul was going to say, Lily came over to them, first kissed and hugged Rose, then turned and hugged and kissed Paul when she said, "You two finally set the wedding date, I'm I right?"

Putting the baby back in her bassinet, then putting his arm around Rose's waist as he answered, "Well actually, we have two major announcements to make."

Curious, Lily asked, "So, what's the news?"

"Well," Rose started to say as she sat on the arm of the couch, "we set the wedding date for May 5th."

Excited for them, both Holden and Lily congratulated them when Holden asked, "What's the other news?"

Paul then took Rose's hand, looked down at her and said, "This part is the tough part because, this is the part that might upstage your baby news."

Hearing what Paul had just said, sensing what the news was, Lily asked, "Paul, Rose, are you trying to tell us that, you two are going to have a baby?"

Paul and Rose looked at each other and said at the same time, "YES!"

Excitedly Lily and Holden congratulated them again and Lily commented, "That's great, Paul, Rose. When are you due? Also Paul, how did your mother take the news? I would have loved to been there when you told her."

"That didn't go too well," Paul started to say, "my mother is up to her old tricks again. She thinks Rose is trying to trap me into marrying her. She'll never change. She also made Rose upset, which made me angry."

Rose interrupted as she gently squeezed Paul's hand, "Lily, I tried to be nice to Barbara but that woman is impossible. As far as when I'm due, I'm due June 5th. And before you ask, we are getting married on May 5th. So my next question, 'Tiger' Lily, will you be my matron of honor?"

"Oh Rose, I'd be honored." Lily said as she hugged Rose.

Paul looked at Holden and said, "Don't worry Holden, I'll find a job for you. I just have to pick between three different men to be my best man but I was wondering if you'd be one of my groom's men?"

Holden shook Paul's hand and said, "Sure, I could do that. Who do you think will be your best man?"

"Well, I'm leaning toward my brother, Will but, given my mother's mental state, I'm afraid she might think I'm trying to brainwash him into turning against her like she see's me doing." Paul told them.

"Rose, obviously your father knows about the pregnancy, how did he take the news? I mean you and Paul aren't married yet?" Lily asked.

"Pop was a little surprised but, he likes Paul and he knows he is going to marry me so he's fine with it." Rose answered.

"Have you called Mitzi or Lucinda about your news yet?" Lily asked.

"Lily, Rose just got home last night, she just told me." Paul reminded her.

Embarrassed, Lily apologized as he doorbell rang, "I'm sorry Rose, I'm rushing you."

"That's all right Lily, I have to talk to Ms. Walsh anyway. But before I talk to her, " Rose said as she got up and looked at Paul, "I want to ask you something, sweetheart?"

"What is it, Rose?" Paul asked.

"Have you found a job yet, because when I left to take care of my pop, I remember Lucinda offering you a job? Did you take it?" Rose asked Paul.

"Ah yeah Rose, I was taking over your job until you got back and even after the trial, Lucinda said that, if I wanted, she had a executive position for me if I want it, why?" Paul asked.

"Well, I was thinking that I'd only work part time now that I'm pregnant and planning our wedding. What do you think?" Rose explained.

"What ever makes you happy sweetheart, is fine with me. I'll call Lucinda and tell her I accept her job offer." Paul told her.

Just then Lucinda walks in as Paul finished his sentence and Holden says, "Well, I think two, Lucinda saved you a phone call."

Noticing that Rose was back, then Lucinda asked, "Rose, welcome back, the office hasn't been the same without you. When I came in, I heard Holden tell you that I saved you a phone call, what did he mean?"

Rose took a deep breath and said, "Ms. Walsh, I have important news to tell you."

Lily and Holden's Living Room

Lucinda greeted them, "Well Rose, what's the news you're so eager to tell me?"

"Well Ms.Walsh, I don't know quite how to tell you this but, you're losing your vice- president."

"What do you mean, I'm losing my vice-president?" Lucinda asked inquisitively, "Where are you going, Rose?"

Rose looked first to Paul for support and then told her, "I'm quitting WorldWide for a new venture, a venture of a more personal nature."

"I still don't understand, Rose," Lucinda asked, "Could you be a little more clear?

"I think what Rose is trying to tell you Lucinda is, that she's leaving WorldWide to be a wife and mother." Paul told her as he put his arm around Rose.

"Well, I knew you two were getting married and all but, when did you have the time to create a baby, Rose? You've been away for months. I actually have a few questions on that subject for you, as to why did you stay away for so long? Didn't you know that your fiance needed you?" Lucinda started to question her.

Trying to stay calm, Rose told her, "Ms. Walsh to answer you question about the baby, he or she was conceived when we were in Avanya rescuing my pop and Simon. As for the rest, that matter is between Paul and I, no one else."

"Well dear, no need to bite my head off for being concerned. But, it seems to me that you would have taken the first plane back or called me to send the my private jet for you to come back here to be at your guy's side in his hour of need." Lucinda continued to question.

"Lucinda, we appreciate your concern but, as Rose said, that subject is between us. But, I have some news for you that you might like." Paul told her.

Lucinda asked, "What is it Paul?"

Paul replied as he glanced at Rose and said, "Since Rose has decided to leave WorldWide to start our family and plan our wedding, I'd like to take you up on your generous job offer that you offered me after the trial. If the offer is still on the table for a second vice-president, I'm your man."

Lucinda answered, "You got it dear, you can start Monday. But, won't your mother be upset that you're not working with her?"

Paul looked at Rose and then at Lucinda and replied, "You know what, it doesn't matter what she thinks. I have to do what I think is best for Rose, me and my family. Now if you will excuse us, I want to get Rose home and off her feet, she shouldn't be on her feet so much in her condition."

"Paul, I'm fine. Really." Rose assured him.

"Rose, honey, don't argue with me. I don't want you to get over tired." Paul told her as he helped her on her feet to get ready to leave.

Before Rose could say anything, Lily told her sister, "Rose, don't fight Paul on this one, Holden was the same way when I was pregnant with Faith and again with Natalie. So much so that my stress level was so high because I was fighting Holden about his hovering, instead of letting him pamper me that, I ended up on bed rest the last half of my pregnancy. So, let Paul pamper you a little bit, it will only help in the long term."

"Thank you Lily." Paul said, "I appreciate you backing me up on this one."

"Okay, I can't win this fight, can I? Alright, you win, I'll take it easy. Honey, are you sure you're not even just a little bit Italian? I mean, you're acting like my pop was when he found out that I was pregnant. He kept fussing over me that it drove me crazy." Rose told Paul when all of a sudden, Rose doubled over in pain.

Alarmed, Paul put his hand on Rose's shoulder and asked, "Rose, sweetheart, what's the matter? Is it the baby?"

"I....I don't know." Rose answered as she clutched Paul's thigh.

Rose arrives in the E.R. on a gurney as Paul is holding her hand.

"Paul, are you here?" Rose asks hysterically, not realizing he's holding her hand.

"Babe, I'm right here. It's going to be alright, you and our baby are going to be fine." Paul try's to reassure a frightened Rose as Dr. Stewart comes over.

"What happened? What happened to Rose, Paul?" Dr.Stewart asked as she tell the orderly to wheel Rose into Exam Room 1.

Paul, trying to stay calm tells her, "I don't know. We were at Lily's and we were about to leave when all of a sudden Rose doubled over in pain. Susan, Rose is four months pregnant."

"Alright Paul, I'll check her over. She's going to be fine." Dr. Stewart told him before going to check on Rose.

Just then Lily and Holden came running in. Lily comes up to Paul, "Where's Rose? Paul, what did the doctor say?"

"Rose is being examined. Susan Stewart is with her." Paul told Lily.

"Paul," Holden told him, " She's going to be alright. Everything is going to be alright. Rose is a fighter, she is not going to let anything happen to this baby."

"Holden's right, Paul. You know my sister better than anyone, if she can stand up to your mother, Lucinda and Dr. Weston, she and your baby will be fine." Lily tried to reassure him.

"I know you're both right but, if anything happens to her or this baby, I don't know if...if" Paul says as he collapses in Lily's arms.

"Paul, trust me, Rose will be fine. Susan will be out soon to tell us what's going on. You have to try to pull yourself together for Rose's sake." Lily told him as she got him to sit down.

Paul sat down but got back up again saying, "I have to keep moving. I can't sit down, it's taking every ounce of my strength not to barge in there to see what's going on."

"You have to relax, you're going to end up sick yourself and then you won't be able to help Rose. You stay here with Holden, I'll go see what's going on." Lily said as she went into the examining room.

Paul looked at Holden and said, "Rose is going to be alright, isn't she Holden? Do you think I should go call Joe?"

"You know what? I think you should relax until we know what's going on," Holden advised, "I don't think we have to alarm Rose's father until we know for sure what's going on."

Just then Dr. Stewart came out of the examination room. Paul, seeing her, walks over to her and asked, "How's Rose? Susan, how's my baby?"

Oakdale Memorial

"Dr. Stewart, how's Rose? Paul asked anxiously, "How's the baby?"

"Paul calm down, Rose is fine." Susan told him.

"What about the baby, Susan?" Lily asked.

Susan explained, "The baby is going to be fine. We did an ultrasound and we found that the baby has fluid building up around the brain."

Scared, Paul asked, "Can there be something done to correct this?"

"Yes, there is. We've called in Ben Harris. Why don't you come in and sit with Rose and Dr. Harris can explain the procedure."

"Alright. Paul said as he walked into the examination room with Dr. Stewart.

Paul walked into the room to find Rose hooked up to monitors, "Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling better now that you're here." Rose says as she takes Paul's hand into hers, "Did Dr. Stewart explain to you what's happening?"

"Yes, she did. Don't worry Rose, everything is going to be alright. Let's wait until Dr. Harris to come to see what he has to say." Paul tells her as Dr. Harris walks in.

"Hey everyone," Dr. Harris started to say, "I looked over Rose's ultrasound and I know what the problem is."

"What is it, Doc?" Paul asked.

"The baby has fluid building up around the brain. The only way to relieve the pressure is by inserting a tube into the child's brain and drain it."

"But, the baby isn't born, yet?" Paul reminds him.

Rose interrupts, "You're not suggesting me having this baby now, so that we can do the surgery, I'm only almost five month along?"

"Actually, I was talking about performing the surgery while the baby is still in the womb. It's a new way to correct this problem. There's no guarantees that it will work this way. There are risks but Rose is strong and healthy, the baby is strong. Now Rose, you said that you were almost five months along, right?"

"Right, is that important?" Rose asked.

"Yes, it is. I wish you were at least six months along but,if we monitor everything, I think we have a good chance of saving this baby and not endangering Rose's health." Dr. Harris replied.

"Ben, Paul started to say as he looked at Rose, "May Rose and I have a few minutes alone to discuss this?"

"Of course, I'll be waiting outside." Dr. Harris answered, "Rose, do you have an questions before I go?"

"Yes, I do actually, this tube you're inserting, is it permanent," Rose inquired, "Also, if we don't have this done, will our child die?"

Dr Harris explains, "I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear, this tube is permanent. You have to watch out when the child gets headaches."

"What do you mean, Doc? Won't he or she have normal headaches? Paul asked, "Also, you didn't answer Rose's question, will this child die if we don't have this operation?"

Ben explains, "The child can have normal headaches but if they are really bad then, we have to do surgery to correct it. To answer the other concern, yes the baby will die."

Paul and Rose looked at each other and agreed to the surgery, "Alright, when do you want to do the surgery?"

"We could do it, tomorrow morning? I can reserve the OR for seven thirty." Dr. Harris told them.

"Ben, now can Rose and I have a few minutes alone and then we'll give you our final decision." Paul told him.

"Sure, I'll be outside. Take as much time as you need." Dr. Harris says before he leaves.

After Dr. Harris and everyone else leaves the room, Paul and Rose discuss their options and Rose confesses to him, "Paul, I'm scared, I don't want to lose this baby but, what if the procedure doesn't work? I never told you this but my cousin on my mother's side has this same condition and she's fine now because she had this done after she was born and now they want to do the surgery before I even have the baby, I hope we're doing the right thing."

Kissing her and putting his hands on Rose's shoulders, Paul promises her, "Rose, my love, our baby is a fighter and she or he's stubborn and strong willed like both it's parents. Besides, I would never, ever put you or our child in any danger, I know you know that about me. So, do I tell Dr. Harris to reserve the operating room?"

"Yes." Rose agreed, "Please do. Then could you do me another favor?"

"Of course, anything." Paul said.

"Could you call my pop in Jersey to tell him what's going on. Also, when are we going to exchange gifts? I mean, it's well past Christmas?"Rose asks.

Paul kisses Rose and says, "Alright, I'll call Joe after they assign you a room. Let me just go tell Dr. Harris to reserve the OR. As far as the last question, we will exchange gifts when you get out of here. Do you want me to call Mitzi while I'm making these calls?"

"No, I don't. I'll call her after they assign me a room. All I want after you talk to Dr. Harris, is for you to be by my side and help me get through this. I realize that I really don't have the right to expect you to do that now." Rose admitted.

"What do you mean, Rose?" Paul asked

"Well mainly because, well let's face it I wasn't here when you needed me. What kind of person stays away, out of the country when someone they love is in trouble and even though I didn't know until later, I should have known, I mean, I have a sixth sense about if someone I care about is in trouble or hurt, I can feel it." Rose tells him.

"Rose, we've been over this, yes I was angry and hurt that you weren't here for me to lean on but I also know it wasn't intentional and you do love me. Now lets make a pact, that we don't bring up my arrest anymore or the fact that you were gone for so long. Let's concentrate on the present and the future, our baby making it through the surgery in the morning and our beautiful wedding and the wonderful life we're going to have together. Now, I will be right back, I'm just going to tell Dr. Harris to reserve the room."

"Alright, I'll be here, waiting for you, my love."Rose said as Paul left the room.

Talking to the baby as she rubs her stomach, "Oh little one, the doctor's is going to take good care of you tomorrow, you're going to live through this surgery and so am I. Your daddy is the one I'm worried about."

Over hearing her talking to herself, Paul comes in, "Who are you talking to, sweetheart? And why are you worried about me?"

Smiling at the sound of his voice, Rose looked up and said, "I was just talking to your son or daughter and telling him or her that they are going to be fine."

Coming over to her bedside, Paul kissed her and said, "What did you mean when I heard you say, "your daddy is the one you're worried about?"

Smiling, she touches his cheek and says, "I meant that you are so tense, I could see it on your face when you came in here earlier."

"Well honey, I'm just worried about you and the baby, also the surgery in the morning. I don't want to live my life without either one of you. I didn't want to break down in front of you or the others either. In fact, when I left you to tell Ben Harris to reserve the O.R. for tomorrow, I went to the hospital chapel and prayed for strength, to help me, help you and the baby get through tomorrow." he told her as he took her hands and kissed them at the same time.

"Oh honey," Rose started to say as the tears streamed down her face, "Don't ever be afraid to show your emotions in front of me or your fears. That's what makes our relationship so great, you're not afraid to show your emotions."

"Rose, while I was praying, I got a sign, I know that sounds strange or weird but, I know that every thing is going to work out fine tomorrow."

Rose told him as she kissed him, "I've come up with some names for the baby that I want to pass along to you."

"Ah, alright what are they?" Paul asked as a nurse came in the room.

The nurse told them that Rose's room was ready and they had come to take her up. Rose told Paul as followed behind her, "Paul, if you have to fill out any papers on me, my insurance information is in my purse that I left with Lily."

"I already took care of that, he told her as they got to her room.

Once in Rose's room and they got her settled, Paul asked hr as he nervously fixed her pillow, "Well sweetheart, can I get you anything?"

"Paul darling, I'm fine. But, you've got to relax before you have a nervous break down." Rose told him.

Trying to calm down, Paul sat beside her bed, took her hand and said, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to worry or scare you right now, I know I should be keeping you calm. You said something about baby names?"

"They're just suggestions but, there is one name that is not up for discussion if our baby is a girl." She told him.

Curious, Paul asks, "What do you mean? I mean, is there a family name you were thinking of?"

"Yes it is." Rose admitted, "I made promise to my aunt, my mother's oldest sister that I'd name my first daughter after her."

"Is your Aunt still living?, Paul asked, "What's her name?"

Rose told him, "Her name was Nina. She died when I was 18, she and I were very close."

"Alright," Paul agreed, "What were you thinking as far as if it's a boy?"

Smiling, Rose told him, "That's easy. How would you like, a Paul Ryan Jr."

Kissing her, Paul replies, "That sounds heavenly. I could handle a son name after his "old man"?"

"Old man? Right. You're not old." she laughed.

"You know what I mean." Paul told her as he stroked her face, "You know what I want right now?"

Thinking that he meant that he wanted to make love, she says, "I don't think so, we have no privacy."

His smiled widened as he replies, "Not that. I want you to relax, so I'm going to go home so that you can get some rest for tomorrow."

Now, she was the one who was getting scared, she grabs his hand as he was about to leave and pleads, "Paul, please don't leave..."

Concerned, Paul asked, "What's wrong, Sweetheart? Is it the baby again? Do you want me to get the doctor ? What?"

Rose, trying to control her anxiety but, she said, "I hate hospitals, you know that! Ever since the whole "Dr. Frankenstein" Dr. Weston thing, I'm afraid to be left alone in this place."

"Rose, darling, sweetheart, you're safe here!," Paul tried to reassure his frightened fiancee, " Nothing is going to hurt you here, I promise you. If it will make you feel any better, I'll call Jack and have him post a guard outside the door or I'll just have to stay right here in this chair to keep my beautiful future wife safe. How does that sound?"

Relaxing as she loosened her grip on Paul's hand, Rose said, "That is perfect. Besides, if I know you Paul Ryan, you'd never get any sleep at home because you'll be too worried about me and the baby to sleep."

Smiling that his future wife knows him so well, tells her, "Rose D' Angelo, you know just what buttons to push to get me to do just about anything, don't you? I have a feeling you're going to keep me on my toes during our entire marriage?"

"You've got that right." Rose laughed, "Could you do me just four more little favors for tonight?"

"On one condition, my love and that is, you get some sleep before I call the nurse to give you something." Paul told her.

"Could you call Mitzi, my Pop, Emily, and Carly to let them know what's going on?" Rose asked

Of course. I'll have to go use a pay phone because they don't allow you to use cell phones in hospitals. Will you be alright if I go make those calls?" Paul asked.

Rose nodded her agreement as Paul left the room. While she waited, she tried to keep herself calm by praying. When Paul came back, Rose was just starting to get a little nervous, "Sweetheart, are you alright? I got ahold of Mitzi, she told me that she'll come and see you tomorrow. Your father insisted on coming tonight so I called Lucinda to ask to use her jet to fly him out here so, Lucinda is taking care of that, I left messages on Emily and Carly's machines. Now Rose, I want you to get some sleep, you have a busy day tomorrow."

"With you sleeping by my side, I know now I can sleep." Rose told him as she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Rose wakes up at 6 with a start, almost forgetting where she was until she heard the paging system paging Dr. Hughes, then she knew where she was. Before she could start panicking, Paul woke up and kissed her, "Good Morning, beautiful. How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling a little better this morning, I will be more relaxed after the procedure. How did you sleep? It couldn't have been too comfortable in that chair. I'm sorry you had to sleep on such an uncomfortable surface when you could have been sleeping in our big, roomy bed but, I just needed you near me." Rose explained as she kissed him.

Before he could respond, a nurse came in to prep her for surgery. While the nurse was doing that, Paul went to see if Rose's father was in town yet.

After the nurse finished prepping her, Paul went back in the room, Rose asked him, "Did you get a hold of my Pop at Lucinda's ?"

Before Paul could respond to the question, Rose's father, Joe came in, "Rosie, I'm here."

"Pop," Rose exclaimed, "when did you get here?"

Joe walked over and kissed Rose and said, "I got here this morning on Lucinda's jet. How's my girl doing"

Rose replies as she smiles first at her father and then smiling and kissing Paul, answered as 2 nurses came into the room with a gurney, "I'll be fine when the baby is safe and I'm out of this place and back, safely in the loving arms of my future husband."

The nurses help Rose onto the gurney. As she's being wheeled out, she starts panicking, "Paul,"

Paul goes over to her side, takes her hand and says,"Rose, what is it?"

She looks up at him and says as tears in her eyes, "I just want you to know now, in case something happens in there, I love you."

Paul kisses Rose, "Rose, I love you too. You and the baby are going to be just fine. I'll be right here waiting for you, you're not going to get out of marrying me this way."

"Alright, I'll be right back, back before you know it." Rose said as she is rolled to the operating room.

After Rose was out of sight, Paul broke down in tears, "She has to be alright. The baby has to live I don't know if I could go on without either of them."

Lily walked over and embraced her future brother in law and said, "Paul, you have to stop thinking like this, Rose and the baby are going to be fine."

"Lily, deep down, I know you're right but, I won't relax until she is out of surgery. I won't rest until Rose is my wife and our baby is born healthy." Paul told Lily

Joe walks over to Paul, too and assures him, "Paully, listen to me, my Rosie loves you and that love will give her and that baby inside of her the strength and the courage to get through this. You have to have faith."

For the next two hours, Paul paced back and forth, occasionally taking a rest, when Dr. Harris finally came out of surgery. When the group saw him, Paul walks up to him and asked, "Dr. Harris, Ben, how's Rose? How's my baby?"

Dr. Harris said with a sigh, "Paul, I have good news."

Paul interrupted, "Doc, what is it ? What's the news?"

Paul asked Dr. Harris again, "Ben, how's Rose? How's my baby?"

Ben replied, "Paul, Rose is fine. She lost some blood but we got it under control. And the baby came through this tricky procedure beautifully. We were able to determine the sex of the baby, do you want to know?

Paul answered, "Actually, I do want to know but, Rose would kill me if I didn't ask her first, if she wanted to know. May I see her?"

"She's in recovery, you can see her in a little while." Ben told him.

Lily walks over to Paul and asked, "Don't keep us in suspense, what about my sister?"

With a bright smile, he hugged Lily and said, "Rose is going to be alright. The baby is alright!!"

"Oh Paul, that's fantastic news, I told you that everything was going to be alright!" Lily said excitedly, "Did Ben say when we could see her?"

Paul replied, breathing a huge sigh of relief, "He said in a little while. Also Lily, could you do me a big favor?"

"What is it, Paul?" Lily asked.

Paul told her, "Could you call the nearest church and see if we could get a priest over here?"

Confused, Lily asked, "Why? You just said that Rose was going to be fine?"

"She is." Paul explained as he walked over by Rose's father and asked him, "Joe, Rose and I were going to tell you that we had set the wedding date for May because Rose is Due June 5th but after this scare, I don't want to wait. So, with your blessing and if Rose is willing and feeling up to it, I would like to marry her next week?"

Stunned, Joe says, "How could I say no to the man who saved my life and who makes my Rose so happy. Yes, you have my blessing but first, you have to ask Rose."

After about two hours, Rose came back from recovery. Rose woke up in her hospital room to find Paul smiling down at her, "Hey Preppy, how are you?"

Smiling at the sound of her familiar and endearing nickname for him, " Hey beautiful, how are you feeling? Dr. Harris said that everything went well and you and the baby are just fine."

"I told you that everything was going to be alright with the baby and your precious Rose, " Rose told him as she kissed him, "Paul, I don't want to wait to get married, I want to get married next week, as soon as I'm able. What do you say?"

Looking at his beloved Rose, Paul reaches down and touches her face and says, "That sounds heavenly."

Epilogue

On a bright and sunny beach in Italy, Paul and Rose are sitting on the beach enjoying watching their daughter, Nina and son, Scott Paul playing in the sand, when both kids came up and sat next to their parents and can Scott Paul asked, "Dad, tell us a story?

"What kind of story Scott Paul?" Paul asked.

"The story about how you and mama met?" Nina chimed in.

Smiling as he squeezed his wife's hand and answered, "Alright. Rose do you want to tell the story?"

Chuckling, Rose kisses her husband and said, "I do believe your son asked you to tell the story."

"Fine." Paul started to say, "I came home from Paris, tired, angry when your grandmother, Barbara was hurt, when this beautiful angel with beautiful green eyes came up to me and saved my life."

"Aww Preppy, you're going to make me cry." Rose commented as she wiped her eyes.

Paul continued, "As I was saying, this angel found my heart which was lonely, cold and hidden because it had been hurt too many times. She took my heart into her delicate hands, and breathed life back into it and made it whole."

"Now you've done it, preppy. You've got me crying," Rose said as she wiped her eyes, "I'll never let you go."

"Amen to that." Paul says as he leans over and kisses her.
