Information Technology - (IT) processes and maintains infromation usually in a company or large organization.
Personal Computer - (pc) a small system usually used by an individual and businesses use them to document and maintain certain data.
Needs Assessment - helps businesses diagnose performance problems and also aids in solutions.
Operating System - this program enables you to acccess files and the internet, it also helps you manage your pc
High Level Language vs. Machine Lenguage - High level language is used by programmers to write programs. Machine languages are understood by computers and are normally in numeric form.
Graphic User Interface - (GUI) this system shows documents in their final form and uses pictures to represent certain data.
Computer Network - a group of computers linked together
WWW vs. internet - (world wide web) www is a system of internet servers that support specailly formatted documents and links that allow us to jump from one site to the next by clicking an object. Internet is a network that connects millions of computers in over 100 countries.
TCP/IP - (trasmission control protocol/internet protocol) information inputed without a direct link between you and the recipient, but also connects two computers to send messages back and forth
Ethernet/fast ethernet - ethernet transfers data @ 100 mbps, fast ethernet transfers @ 1 gps
Bandwidth and Speed - bandwidth measures the amount of information that can be transfered in a fixed amount of time expressed in bytes per second. speed is how fast your system can receive the infromation.
ISPs - ( internet service provider) a company that provides service to the internet, under some conditions: username,password, and phone number, once you have provided this information you receive a modem and the software to access the internet.
Streaming Video - this is a type of video that downloads bits of video and allows you to view other bits at the same time until you have viewed the whole thing
AVIs - (audio video interleave) this combines microsoft video and windows file system
Virtual Enviroment - make believe concepts invloving a home and/or community
Visual Basic - a language in which the objects respond to events such as a mouse click
C++ - programming language, very popular and adds object-oriented features
Batch files - sets of commands that are always together, somewhat of a shortcut
Object Oriented Programming - specific programming that includes data types and function and the object can inherit other functions
Browser - assists in connecting and viewing of internet files
HTML - ( hyper text markup language) a language used by computers to document on the internet
Static Web Page - contains information in text form, and can only be accessed through the source code
Interactive Web Page - allows users to edit data and commands
URL - (uniform resource locator) a specific type of address for documents and other resources on the www
