About the Odyssey:

The Odyssey is an "epic" poem about the journey of the Greecian war hero and king, Odysseus, after his victory in the Trojan War. The Odyssey, is a sequel to the often violent telling of the Trojan War, The Iliad. The Odyssey has been so essential in Western Literature that its main theme could be considered most important one in modern stories, used for books as different as The Wizard of Oz and The Bean Trees. The Odyssey is also famous for its exploration of its hero's sensitive side.

About Homer:

Beyond a few hints and written recocords, historians can only speculate about the existance of the writer of the Iliad and the Odyssey. No one knows with absolute certainty what century Homer lived in, much less, if the books were both written by the same person. The Greeks agreed that both books were written by the same man, but Homers existance is still suspect to most.
