ATHLETE OF THE SEASON:
This season, Athlete of the Season is going to an athlete who has shown that dedication and perseverence is vital to success. This athlete might not have started off his career the way he wanted to, but he stuck with Track and Field and is definately ending his High School career with plenty of pride and honor. This season's Athlete of the Season goes to MIGUEL REYES.Throughout this season, he has had to overcome many obstacles to have such a good season, although it is very hard to tell from the way he has been racing lately. This week, Miguel Reyes earned All-American honors for the second time in his career, and this time in an individual event. He earned All-American honors indoors by leading off our State Record Holding 4xmile with a huge pr of 4:24. Throughout this season, Miguel Reyes has been the role model of consistancy. His hard work and dedication has rubbed off on the rest of the team, helping them to run great performances throughout the year. It's been very hard to point out any races that he has not run good in this season. His hard work culminated in being the STATE CHAMPION in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:31, winning by about 3 seconds. He also won the FEDERATION title in the steeplechase, bringing home 2 gold medals. At Nationals, he placed 3rd in the 2000m steeple with a 6 second PR of 6:04. He made a late race rally to almost place 2nd in the nation in the 2000m steeple. He also nearly broke the school 2000m steeple record. Also, in his season, he won the section steeplechase in a PR of 9:29, and ran a leg on the section champion 4x8. He placed 2nd at counties in the 3200m with a new PR of 9:33.Another honor Reyes earned was defending his Loucks Games Steeple Title, winning in a time of 9:44.71, winning by 7 seconds. His hard work and courage are the reason why he is earning ATHLETE OF THE SEASON. It also helps that he's had an MVP season, earning co-MVP honors, though after placing 3rd at nationals, he should have the title to himself. Congratulations MIGUEL REYES, and good luck at Alfred State next yr!!! YOUR THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
