Megaman Zero 2 - Beta

Hello, this is Meta! I've created this SC:OT page to show you the Beta shots of Megaman Zero 2 that I've collected. Most of these come from Gamespot, and I'll show you whats different in each shot. Also note I resized most of the pictures so they were less in file size and so it would be better looking on the page. Enjoy!

Updates

Sunday, December 21st, 2003- Added the 20th Beta Pic, which shows Zero using the Chain Rod in the beginning of the game. I found it at www.planet-megaman.com. Also, DeepBlueVibes from the Sonic CulT forums pointed out a difference in the Elpizo Beta Picture.

This screen shows Zero fighting an Electric Mechanicaloid with a different energy bar. Zero's energy bar has much bigger "ticks" than in game. In the final, the "ticks" (I don't know what else I could call them) are much smaller and yellow-green. The Z-Gun bullet that is above Zero does look suspicious, but is really a deflected shot from the Electric Mechanicaloid, as I have proved in my screenshot.

All these shots are different, but have one thing in common. Only one weapon icon in shown below the lifebar. At all times during the game, you have two weapons selected, and two weapon icons are always shown under the energy bar. In all shots, the weapon icon shown under the energy bar is always the Z-Gun and some shots show him using the Z-Gun, but in some shots Zero is using the Chain Rod or nothing at all. Perhaps the Chain Rod had no icon yet, so it couldn't show it. Thats what I think is the reason it only shows one weapon icon under the energy bar. Also, everything else in the shots are normal.

This shot is a bit strange. First, Zero has the Chain Rod, which cannot be used in that area in the very beginning, only the Z-Gun and Z-Saber can. Second, the Electric Mechanicaloid has a MUCH darker palette. The second picture features Zero using the Chain Rod in the same area, when the Pantheons (X-like robots) are chasing him.

This shot is much different from the final. First, there is no star rating system like in the final, shown on the very right screen. Instead, it says that it doubles defence but cuts attack in half. This is not as specific as the final it has the highest rating for defense, but the lowest for power. There is a translation done for the beta shot. Thanks to Kojichao for translating that. Also, the orange helmet which stands for the Active Form, is in a different place. It should be beneath the red helmet (Normal), not beside it. The other two helmets should be dimmed out because they are not selected, like in the final, but they are not.

Three things different in this screenshot. First, theres no background, but has a plain light blue background instead. Second, the Z-Saber icon is from the first Megaman Zero, not the second. Lastly, it has a "154" at the top. I'm not sure what that was, but perhaps they had a points system, where your points would increase as you kill enemies or collect Cyber Elves and such. Or even a debug mode counter. But it does not appear in the final.

This screen has two differences. Elpizo, the guy in the middle, has a different mugshot. Heres a screen of what his mugshot is in the final. In the beta, it looks more scetched or hand-drawn, like in the first Megaman Zero. I guess they wanted to use a sketched style but decided to replace it. Personally I find the non-sketched style better. Second, the red triangle on the front of the desk which reads "C 05" is present in the final, but not the beta. This was pointed out to me by DeepBlueVibes, from the Sonic CulT forums.

This one is strange. At first I didn't notice it, but now when I look at it again, I see that Kuwagust Anchus, the boss, is using his A/S Attack, where he creates a cyclone of wind at you that pushes you backwards, then dashes at you with electricity trailing behind him. The reason it is called an A/S Attack is because the boss will only use it if Zero's rank is A/S. But look. His rank is F. That must mean they enabled the A/S Attack no matter what rank you had in the beta. Also note he only has one weapon selected.

Again, only one weapon equipped, the Z-Gun while Zero is using the chain rod. Thing is, the boss, Phoenix Magnion should have all three of his copies and himself flashing, or at least with a whiter palette. But in these screens they're not. I guess they hadn't implemented that feature in yet.
