Dumangas is the coastal town situated at the Eastern part of Panay Island. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of Barotac Nuevo, on the South an East by the Guimaras Strait, and on the West the Municipalities of Pototan and Zarraga.

Tracing back hundred of years ago, Dumangas started as a settlement or Brgy. named "araut" in 1212 A.D. Its early inhabitants, which was believed to be Shi- Visayan. All throughout mangoes grew abundantly, that the name Dumangas and alter derived which meant "Duro Mangas" or many mangoes. In 1606 the town site was transferred to its present location to avail the usefulness of the nearby Dumangas river. This believed to be the formal founding of Dumangas.

Dumangas considered as both an agricultural and fishing municipality. It contains a total land area of 12,820 hectares. As a coastal town, a large portion of the land is bounded by the sea.
Although considered a fishing town, its major products is agricultural, as most the area is devoted to farming. The minor products are sugarcane, coconut, mango and watermelon.

Dumangas was the place, which the first mass was said, and the first stone church was erected, in the whole Panay. St. Augustine church, this church was built during the years of the Spanish rule. It was considered the most artistic church of the Gothic Architecture in the country after its completion in 1895, unfortunately this church was burned during the Filipino -American war.
Siete pecados the seven islets that could be found between Dumangas and Guimaras. Originally Siete pecados belongs to Dumangas for its more nearer from and to Dumangas.
As a coastal municipality, Dumangas is gifted with beautiful beaches. The beaches of the Nalu-oyan, Bacay, Dacutan and Lacaran facing the scenic view of the Siete Pecados against Guimaras Island. Here in Dumangas you could found the first farm resort in Western Visayas the IJT KATAMNAN. Located at Pulao, Dumangas.



The Pahaw-as festival was established only this year. The festival signifies the good harvest of Bangus or Milkfish. The Dumangasnons celebrates this as their way of giving. The Pahaw-as festival is the only festival organized by the municipal government.
