As Kolby's Mom and Dad, we just want to express our complete and heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have been following his story. Your emails and phone calls have really touched us. Your prayers have moved mountains!
Originally, this website was intended for future parents who received the same kind of diagnosis that we did. Kolby's Mom just couldn't find anyone to connect with online or locally who could give us some hope, or offer their advice, so we wanted to offer ourselves in that role. But it has become much bigger than that. Kolby's Story is touching people in some way. It is being spread through web rings and churches. The staff at the hospital are reading it. The cover page was posted on the bulletin board in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Many times, we can't even access the site because it is so busy. We could have never imagined the impact that it is having on people.
To us, all of this gives some sense of meaning to what we are going through. Apparently, there is a Divine Hand at work here. There is some kind of order to our chaos. We are both deeply moved and humbled by it all.
Many of you have told us that you've been moved by our faith. We find humor in that, because in so many ways we are perhaps two of the most cowardly people you could ever meet. We are like infants ourselves, with more questions than answers.
Perhaps, the lesson in this story for us all is that we shouldn't put people or God into boxes. Everything that we heard or read before Kolby was born was that he would die and die quickly. He was marginalized from the womb, an outcast, not compatible with life in this world. But yet he lives. We believed everything we had heard, and really had no expectation that God would act in any way different from the norm. Yet God did. There are amazing surprises at every turn! God as surprised us all.
We are trying to remain realistic still. We know that medically speaking, there is not much chance for Kolby. But because of Kolby and all of you, we find ourselves realizing that sometimes God has better things in store!
Thank you very much, Jason and Diane Metzinger
