PURPOSE and OPERATION
The Thames Philharmonia provides for local audiences and musicians in south west London, variety in compositions performed, including choral works. Performances also take place in central London. The soloist's instruments or the chosen programme generally acknowledge both 'ethnic' and 'classical' repertoires: gayageum, baglama, violin, piano and works by composers from different lands. This approach lends itself, through music, to the Musical Director's desire to give meaning to the phrase 'West meets East'.
The orchestra is a Registered Charity. We have a committee, which meets, plans and manages the rehearsals and concerts. Orchestral and non-playing members assist. Our intention is to perform to a high standard and to entertain audiences, some of whom may attend as part of a Charity fund-raising event.
Our aims include:
> that the orchestral players consist entirely of good amateur players who enjoy playing
a classical and multicultural repertoire
> that costs are kept low:
- membership fee for playing and non-playing members being £20 per annum (Nov 2008)
- ticket prices for audiences are within a fair range depending on the venue
'Standard' 'Concession' and 'Family'
The orchestra and its musicians are indebted to sponsors who make it possible to present a concert, and to 'friends' who provide assistance in the form of action, in the past and in the present.
If you wish to become a Member of the orchestra (playing or non-playing), please apply to: thamesphilharmonia@googlemail.com
Membership fee at 20th September 2009 is £20 per annum. Our year runs from September to September.
If you wish to sponsor the orchestra in any way, or be sent information about forthcoming concerts, please contact us via: thamesphilharmonia@googlemail.com
