When did B.A.R enter F1?

B.A.R spent the 1998 season building its factory and working on the B.A.R 001 in preparation for entry into the Formula 1 World Championship in 1999.

How did it fare during its first few seasons?

The team suffered the usual teething problems during its first season that prevented it from finishing any races in the points. However, the team bounced back strongly in 2000 to score 20 points and finish equal fourth in the FIA Constructors' Championship. 2001 proved a tougher assignment as the team failed to build on that progress. That ushered in widescale change for 2002 and there was some positive progress with both Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis scoring top six finishes. Jenson Button joined Jacques in the driving force for 2003 and the team continued to improve claiming fifth place in the Constructors' Championship.

When did B.A.R score its first World Championship point?

B.A.R scored its first points at the very start of 2000 season in Australia-exactly one year after the team's debut-when both cars finished in the top six. Jacques Villeneuve claimed fourth place while Ricardo Zonta finished sixth.

Who are the team's driver for 2004?

B.A.R's drivers are Jenson Button and Takuma Sato. After promising seasons with Williams and Renault, the highly-rated Button joined the team for the first time in 2003 and his experience will be invaluable in 2004. Sato raced for Jordan in 2002 finishing fifth in the Japanese Grand Prix and was B.A.R's official reserve/test driver in 2003 stepping up to the race team for his debut in the final GP of the season, finishing a fine sixth at Suzuka.

Apart from Sato and Button, who else has raced for B.A.R?

Jacques Villeneuve was a member of the team from its formation in 1999 until the penultimate race of last season. Brazilian racer Ricardo Zonta drove for the team in 1999 and 2000. Mika Salo subbed for Zonta for three races in 1999 after Zonta hurt his ankle in practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Olivier Panis joined in 2001 and the Frenchman enjoyed two seasons with BAR.

Where is B.A.R's headquarters?

The team's state-of-the art factory is in Brackley, Northants, England. It is located only six miles from Silverstone, making the home of the British Grand Prix a handy local venue for testing.

How many people and how much equipment is taken to each Grand Prix?

Travelling to each F1 race are two drivers, three cars, ten engines, more than 80 tyres, 17 tons of spares and 45 technicians and support staff.

What happens to the car between Grands Prix?

The cars are totally rebuilt between each race and are stripped down and subjected to over 200 diagnostic checks.

Do the cars change during the season?

The cars are continually being tested and developed - the B.A.R factory produces over 200,000 components each year.

What is B.A.R's best result to date?

B.A.R's best Grand Prix result was Jacques Villeneuve's third place podium finishes in both the 2001 Spanish and German Grands Prix. Jenson Button scored to fourth place finishes in 2003 and now is confident of scoring his first podium during 2004.

What engines does B.A.R use?

B.A.R has exclusive use of 'works' Honda V10 engines. Honda has an enviable history in F1 having taken 11 FIA Drivers' and Constructors' Championships titles during its second spell in F1 between 1983 and 1992.

How many people work for the team in total?

The number is approximately 360 people.

Who designs the car?

No one person could possibly design a modern F1 car. B.A.R has a team of 70 people working in its design department-this team is headed by B.A.R's well-respected Technical Director Geoffrey Willis.
