"Rem?"
Rayne had struggled to his feet and come to stand behind her,
"Rem I'm sorry...I'm so fucking sorry..."
She looked up at him for a moment, then stood,
"Don't be, this isn't over yet!"
She turned to the croud of people who'd been helping them get the people out,
"Listen, I know I have no right to be asking you for this, I've never met any of you before in my life, and the chances are that the men buried here are the same" she looked out, taking every face in, wondering breifly if she'd remember any of them should she meet them again, "and if you're in this town then you've probably gotten used to looking out for you and yours, a lot of the time that's how we survive, but all we ever do is survive, just manage to hang on. This is the first time in my life I've seen so many people acting together to help total strangers, and we've done a lot more than survive, we've saved. All the peacekeepers ever do is kill! All the peacekeepers do is this! So even if tomorrow you all go back to looking out for you and yours, I am asking you to give me tonight!" she gestured to the building, "to give them tonight as one night when we can help people just because....just because we can." she sighed a little, "because in this town tomorrow night it could be you...and I'm telling you all right now that any man that I can save, I will save! I'm asking you to do the same"
With that Rem ran back towards the rubble and began pulling lumps of rock away, digging through it desperately in the hopes of finding somone, anyone still living.
