The
jewel in The Rostrum’s crown is Theatre One, a magnificent twelve-hundred
seat auditorium with full-size orchestra pit, three tiers of seating including
box seats, and twenty-four handmade glass chandeliers. The Rostrum also houses
a smaller second theatre, with seating for up to four hundred. Theatre Two
is prized for its flexibility, having been designed for easy conversion to
different seating layouts including proscenium front-on, theatre-in-the-round
or cabaret with tables. Theatre Two also has a film projection box and is
equipped with the latest audio-visual technology, making it ideal for multimedia
conferences and performances, and film screenings.
The
Rostrum Gallery is a large single-room gallery for the display of art and artefacts.
Many of the exhibitions shown in the gallery relate to events being staged in
the two theatres but it is also popular with local artists because it offers
such excellent exposure for their work.
The
Rostrum complex includes two rehearsal rooms, a meeting room and a workshop
which can all be hired out day and night, either separately, or in conjunction
with the hire of the theatres. Rehearsal Room One has a sprung floor, mirrors
and a bar for the comfort and safety of dancers, and both rehearsal rooms have
a stereo sound system. The meeting room has facilities for multimedia presentations
as well as the more traditional white boards.
The Rostrum has a number of venues available for hire
including:
- a traditional 1200 seat theatre with orchestra pit
- an adjustable 400 seat theatre with multimedia facilities
- a gallery
- two rehearsal rooms
- a workshop
- a meeting room.
