Appearance:  Marik is twenty-four years old. He has short black hair and hazel eyes. He has a slender form, which helps him out maneuver his way out of tough situations. Usually, he wears clothes of dark colors, such as black or navy blue. On his belt are a pair of sheathed short swords. He keeps his hair out of his eyes with a bandanna. Marik has a sort of "roguish" handsomeness to him, the kind of person mothers would keep their daughters from, and that daughters would date just to rebel.

Personality:  Marik lives for survival. He never does anything helpful or harmful unless it benefits him in some way. He always plans ahead, never rushing into a situation. Although not all that friendly by nature, he is quite apt at faking it in order to make a good business deal.  Unknown to most, Marik is has a very frail constitution. He appears healthy and fit most of the time, but even the weakest of viruses can wreak havoc on his body. As a result, he drinks and eats as healthy as he can. He also will "attach" himself to any priest of Ark he encounters, in hopes of staying well. Marik hates loud, pushy braggarts. He tends more inclined to help out shy, soft-spoken people. Ironically, he is very opinionated himself. He'll often flirt with women, but usually just to find out information or to sell some gems. 

History:  Marik is the son of a jeweler. His mother died after giving birth. Marik's father spent his whole life searching for a mythical gem called the Amethyst Egg. It is said to be a large piece of amethyst worth thousands of gold pieces. After his father disappeared (presumed dead), Marik decided to continue his work by searching for it. His search has lead him to Tennic so far.  Marik buys, sells, and appraises jewelry and gems. He can also cut gems or turn them into jewelry. Ask him for more details. He is always looking for more business. Although a thief (an aspect of himself he keeps hidden), he never cheats his customers.

About two years ago, he took a young orphan girl, Kendra Fallenmoon, as his apprentice.  He has been training her in the arts of gem-cutting and even a little self-defense with a dagger he gave her (known as the moonstone dagger).  He seems to have some form of ulterior motive in training her, but no one knows what it may be.

After traveling to Deteris and selling the large hunk of emerald he found in Keogintom's Tomb to the royal family, Marik now has a great deal more money.  He bought a new house in the Middle-Class segment of North Tennic, and he and Kendra live there now.  They have nicer clothes, things, and equipment.  Kendra now receives a 10 gp a week allowance, which Marik can easily afford.

Most recently, Marik and Kendra went on another expedition to find the Egg.  However, during the adventure Marik was betrayed by one of his hirelings and was stabbed.  He died in Kendra's arms.  His will left everything:  his estate, his money, his possessions...to her.
