History: Liam was born in 1727 to a moderately wealthy family in Galway, Ireland. His father was extremely strict, which led Liam to become a layabout out of rebellion. In 1753, at the age of 26, a heated dispute with his father caused Liam to renounce his family and leave home.
Liam was spotted in a bar fight in by the vampire Darla, who lured him into al alley and sired him as a vampire. Liam's body was laid to rest by his family, and was resurrected the night after his funeral. Waiting patiently by the tombstone for her new mate was Darla. Liam's first kill came moments after clawing his way out of the earth, when he supped on the blood of a terrified graveyard caretaker. Wasting no time getting his bearings, Liam headed straight to his family's home, with Darla in tow. His next victim was his younger sister Cathy, who thought he had returned as an angel. He then made short work of his parents, taking pleasure in their demise, but, as Darla was quick to point out, the memory of his father's disapproval would haunt him forever (Becoming Part 1 2.21 & The Prodigal 1.15).
For the next several years Liam, now known as Angelus, maimed and murdered everyone he had ever known and cared for. With his lover Darla, he cut a swath of destruction through South Wales and Northern Ireland. In 1760 Darla took Angelus to London to meet her sire, the Master. Angelus showed nothing but contempt for the ancient vampire who was more demonic then most vampires and lived below ground. He managed to talk Darla into leaving with him (Darla 2.07).
In 1764 Angelus and Darla killed the wife and daughter of vampire hunter Daniel Holtz in York, England. They sired the daughter as a vampire and left her to be slain by Holtz (The Quickening 3.08).
Angelus and Darla visited France in 1765, and were hunted by a mob and Holtz. Darla betrayed Angelus and left him to die in a barn as she rode off on their only horse (The Trial 2.09).
Angelus caught up with Darla in Vienna, where he made her pay for abandoning him, and they got back together (mentioned in Heartthrob 3.01).
In 1767 Angelus and Darla, alongside vampire lovers James and Elisabeth visited Marseilles, killed the Count De Leon and burned his ville. They were attacked by Holtz but escaped (Heartthrob 3.01).
In 1771 Holtz captured Angelus in Rome and tortured him to try to find Darla, but Darla rescued him (The Offspring 3.07).
Angelus sired a man named Penn in 1800 and taught him to be a serial killer (Somnambulist 1.11).
In 1856 Angelus was captured by police in London for the murder of a little girl. He killed the guard and escaped (Angel #2).
In London, Darla introduced Angelus to an innocent girl with the gift of visions named Drusilla in 1860. Angelus proceeded to torment her and kill her family. When Drusilla joined a convent Angelus killed every nun in front of her, driving Drusilla insane, then sired her as a vampire so she would suffer eternal torment (Becoming Part 1 2.21 and Dear Boy 2.05).
In London, Angelus, Darla and Drusilla eventually added Spike to their vampire family in 1880, and the four traveled together (Fool For Love 5.07 & Darla 2.07).
In 1890 Angelus first saw the ballet Giselle performed by the Blinnikov World Ballet Corps and was brought to tears (mentioned in Waiting In The Wings 3.13).
In 1892 Angelus, Spike and Drusilla visited Vienna. Angelus sired Catherine and they fought and wounded the Hollower (Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Angel #1-3).
In 1898 Angelus, Darla, Spike and Drusilla visited Romania. Darla captured a birthday present for Angelus, a gypsy girl, which he drained and killed. Unknown to Angelus the girl was a gypsy princess, and her death so enraged the gypsy elders that they crafted a curse that would eternally torment him, they gave Angelus a human soul, which would give him unbearable guilt for all his evil acts (Becoming Part 1 2.21 and Five by Five 1.18).
Darla, Drusilla and Spike massacred the gypsies that cursed Angelus (Darla 2.07).
In 1900, as Darla, Drusilla and Spike feasted in China during the Boxer Rebellion. Angelus tried to rejoin them, but was unable to act as he once did because of his soul. He saved an infants life and ran away from them (Darla 2.07).
In about the year 1917 Angelus arrived in America and shunned the company of other vampires. There is no record of him feeding on humans either (mentioned in Angel 1.07).
In the 1920's Angelus fought the demon Boone over a woman in Juarez (mentioned in Blood Money 2.12).
During the Great Depression Angelus visited Montana (mentioned in City Of 1.01).
In 1952 Angelus stayed at the Hyperion Hotel in Los Angeles, helping a young woman named Judy. A thesulac demon talked a man into killing himself. After a witch-hunt Angelus was blamed for the death and betrayed by Judy (Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been 2.02).
In may 1967 a drunk Angelus attended the wedding reception of Elvis and Priscilla Presley in Las Vegas (mentioned in The House Always Wins 4.03).
Angelus was in New York in 1969, where he saw the opening of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the Ziegfeld theatre (mentioned in Buffy The Vampire Slayer #50.)
Angelus was eventually approached by a demon named Whistler in New York in 1996. Whistler said he could go either way, for good or evil. He sent Angelus to spy on the latest Vampire Slayer to be called, Buffy Anne Summers. Angelus fell for her at first sight and told Whisler he wanted to help protect her (Becoming Part 1 2.21.)
After getting back into shape Angelus traveled to Las Vegas at the same time Buffy ran away there with her boyfriend Pike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #51-54).
When Buffy and her recently divorced mother moved to Sunnydale, California, Angelus followed them. Angelus knew that Sunnydale was the new home of the Master, who had become weak and trapped in a church under the town years ago. Angelus anonymously warned Buffy of the coming of the Harvest, a ritual feeding meant to restore the Master's power (Welcome To The Hellmouth 1.01).
When Buffy tried to save a friend of from vampires who intended to feed him to the Master, Angelus aided her in finding the lair. She asked his name and he told her it was Angel. Buffy was unable to rescue her friend, but when the Harvest came Angel watched as she was able to slay the Master's chief minion, the vampire Luke and ruin the ritual (The Harvest 1.02).
When a powerful vampire with a clawed hand was trying to win back the favor of the Master, Angel confronted the vampire, but was unable to stop him. Angel then warned Buffy of the vampire's presence in Sunnydale (Teacher's Pet 1.04).
When Angel learned of the Prophecy of the coming of the Anointed One, Angel warned Buffy (Never Kill A Boy On The First Date 1.05).
In an attempt to kill Buffy, the Master sent vampire warriors, called The Three, but Angel was able to help Buffy escape them. Angel was wounded and spent the day at Buffy's house hiding. Buffy started training with the quarter staff and bow. The Master had The Three killed for failing him. Buffy went to Angel the next night, where they admitted they had feelings for each other and kissed, but then in the excitement he vamped out. Frightened, he ran away. The next day Buffy's Watcher Rupert Giles researched Angel and discovered a vampire named Angelus who fit his description. Rupert's diaries said Angelus was a vicious animal, but they also said he came to North America a hundred years ago and there was no record of him feeding here. Buffy's friends Alexander Harris and Willow Rosenberg tried to console her, as she knew what she had to do. Darla then
came to Angel in his lair telling him he was welcome to come back to them, but
he refused. Darla decided the only way to deal with the Slayer and Angel was to get them to fight. She arranged to attack Buffy's mother Joyce and make it look like Angel attacked her. Buffy believed it and went hunting for Angel. Buffy then learned the truth and learned that Angel was cursed by gypsies with the guilt of a human soul. Darla then attempted to shoot the Slayer, but Angel staked Darla to protect Buffy. The next night Angel and Buffy agreed they couldn't be together despite their feelings for each other and kissed good bye (Angel 1.07).
''I just gotta... I gotta walk away from this.'' - Angel
As the school year was ending Cordelia Chase ran for May Queen while she was dating school jock Mitch Fargo. Mitch was attacked in the locker room by a floating baseball bat. Buffy, Xander, Willow and Rupert investigated the attack. Thinking it might have been a ghost Willow investigated all the dead and missing Sunnydale students. Cordelia's friend Harmony was pushed down the stairs by an unseen assailant, who Buffy felt brush against her as it escaped and heard a giggle. Buffy guessed the attacker was an invisible girl. Seeing Cordelia as a common thread in the attacks, Buffy started watching Cordelia as she was preparing her May Queen dress. Angel then visited Rupert in the library, where they talked about Buffy. Rupert was investigating the prophecies of the Master and Buffy, but was having no luck.
Angel said he could get Rupert a copy of the Pergamum Codex, a book of Slayer prophecies. Buffy heard a flute playing in the school at night. Cordelia was elected May Queen.
From Willow's list of missing kids she found that missing student Marcie Ross played the flute in band. Checking out the band room Buffy discovered a hidden nest in the ceiling tiles where Marcie was living. Looking through Marcie's yearbook Buffy found she had no friends. Cordelia discovered her favorite teacher, Miss Miller, nearly suffocated by an invisible assailant. Buffy met with Xander, Willow and Rupert in the library. Rupert realized Marcie had become invisible because everyone ignored her. Cordelia then joined them in the library realizing someone was hurting her friends, hoping Buffy could help her. Buffy decided to go with Cordelia to prepare for her coronation as May Queen, hoping it would lure out Marcie. Xander, Rupert and Willow heard a flute playing in the school and went after Marcie, but it ended up being a trap. Marcie locked them in a room with a gas leak. Marcie then knocked out Buffy and Cordelia and took them to the Bronze to put them on display.
Angel arrived with the Codex in time to save Xander, Willow and Rupert. Marcie attempted to cut up Cordelia's face, but Buffy escaped and was able to knock Marcie out. Marcie was then taken away by the F.B.I. Although Cordelia was thankful for Buffy and friends saving her, she soon reverted to form and treated them as losers. The F.B.I. put Marcie into training as an assassin (Out of Mind, Out of Sight 1.11).
''Oh, I don't know. Looking in the mirror everyday and seeing nothing there. It's an overrated pleasure.'' - Angel
Rupert learned from the Pergamum Codex that Buffy was destined to face the Master in combat and die. Although she tried to quit being the Slayer, Buffy realized she had to fight him after Willow discovered a number of students in the school were slaughtered by the Master's minions. The Anointed One lead Buffy to the Master, leading to Buffy being overpowered and drained by him, then thrown into a pool of water. This freed the Master and opened the hellmouth. Xander and Angel showed up after the Master left and Xander gave Buffy C.P.R. He was able to revive her. Buffy returned to life more powerful then before. As Rupert, Xander, Willow, Cordelia and computer teacher Jenny Calender fought the minions of the Master Buffy fought the master himself. She was able to defeat the Master. As he died the hellmouth closed (Prophecy Girl 1.12).
Buffy spent the summer with her father in Los Angeles, then returned to Sunnydale just in time to save Willow and Xander from a vampire attack. Willow, Xander and even Cordelia noticed a change in Buffy's attitude, she had become cold and harsh. Angel welcomed her back and she was hurtful with him too. She even teased Xander sexually at the Bronze, then left him cold. Although Xander thought Buffy might be possessed, Rupert believed she had issues to deal with after her death experience fighting the Master. The remaining followers of the Master then recovered his bones and attempted to resurrect him using a spell which required the sacrifice of those who were near him when he died. They kidnapped Rupert, Willow, Jenny and Cordelia. Buffy, Angel and Xander were able were able to beat the location of the ceremony out of a vampire and save them, killing most of the Master's remaining followers except the Anointed One. Buffy then dealt with her issues by smashing the bones of the Master with a sledge hammer.
The next day at school she made up with Willow and Xander (When She Was Bad 2.01).
When out patrolling Buffy and Angel came across the dug up and empty grave of a recently killed high school cheer leader. She eventually discovered that high school students Chris Epps and Eric were trying to build a zombie mate for Chris's zombie brother Daryl. When Chris and Eric targeted Cordelia to provide the head for their creation Buffy was able to save her and confronted the boys. She learned Chris had reanimated Daryl. During a fight in the school science building a fire broke out and Daryl and the unfinished body or his mate burned up (Some Assembly Required 2.02).
Angel's past caught up with him when his old buddies Spike and Drusilla arrived in Sunnydale. Spike attacked Buffy, but failed to kill her (School Hard 2.03).
When Rupert's old mate Ethan Rayne arrived in Sunnydale, he set up a costume shop just before Halloween, where he sold cursed costumes which turned their wearers into what they were dressed as on Halloween night. Buffy was turned into a shy princess with no powers or memories of her life, Willow was turned into a ghost and Xander became a soldier. Angel and Cordelia helped them survive as Spike went hunting for the now helpless Slayer. Rupert was able to break the curse, but Ethan escaped (Halloween 2.06).
Ethan returned to Sunnydale when the demon Eygon was out to kill him and Rupert. Eygon, possessing the body of a dead friend of Rupert's attacked them all. It was captured, but then it possessed Jenny. Wanting to throw Eygon off his tracks Ethan captured Buffy and tattooed the mark of Eygon on her shoulder. Willow devised a plan to force Eygon to transfer itself to Angel's body and Angel was able to destroy the demon. Ethan escaped again. Although Jenny recovered, the experience put a damper on her interest in Rupert (The Dark Age 2.08).
''I've had a demon inside me for a couple hundred years... just waitin' for a good fight.'' - Angel
In 1998 hormones eventually won out over reason in Buffy and Angel's relationship. After fighting the Judge, Buffy made a tragic mistake in sleeping with Angel on her 17th birthday (Surprise 2.13).
What they didn't know was that the Romany curse was predicated on Angel remaining tortured. Upon experiencing a moment of true happiness, the curse was lifted and his soul removed once again (Innocence 2.14).
''It doesn't matter. The important thing is you made me the man I am today!'' - Angel
Angel decided to harass Buffy for Valentines day, sending her flowers and making at attempt to kill Xander. His attempts to harm Xander were stopped when Drusilla, entranced by a runaway love spell, protected him (Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered 2.16).
Just before the Sadie Hawkins dance the school started to be haunted by poltergeist activity. Rupert mistakenly believed that Jenny's ghost was responsible. Buffy learned that the spirit of a boy named James Stanley was trapped in the high school and was forcing people to relive the horror of the night he accidentally shot his lover and teacher Grace Newman then killed himself. Although Buffy, Willow, Cordelia and Xander tried to bind the spirit with a spell, they failed. Eventually James was able to possess Buffy and Grace was able to possess Angel as they relived the night of their deaths together. Because Angel was not killed by the bullet Grace was able to forgive James and the cycle of reliving the night was broken (I Only Have Eyes For You 2.19).
When the tomb of the demon Acathla was uncovered in Sunnydale, Angel and Drusilla stole it and attempted to raise the demon, who is was said could suck the world into hell. Unable revive Acathla, Angel kidnapped Rupert hoping to force him to tell what Angel needed to do to wake the demon (Becoming Part 1 2.21).
After Drusilla tricked Rupert into revealing Angel's mistake in raising Acathla Angel was able to revive the demon, who opened a portal to hell which started to suck the world in. Buffy settled her differences with Angel by sending him to hell to close the portal, but she did it right as Willow was successful in duplicating the curse that gave Angel his human soul (Becoming Part 2 2.22).
''Now that's everything, huh? No weapons... No friends... No hope. Take all that away... and what's left?'' - Angel
Thinking she had killed her love, Buffy ran away from home, but was still haunted by visions of Angel in her dreams (Anne 3.01).
Angel eventually returned to Earth, although it's still not known exactly how or why (Faith, Hope and Trick 3.03).
When Buffy discovered Angel had returned from hell she captured him and chained him up and saw to his recovery, without telling anyone else of his return (Beauty And The Beasts 3.04).
Needing a source of money for her 1998 Christmas shopping and to pay for damages to a car she destroyed while fighting a vampire, Buffy got a job at the Popsicle Parlor. Angel visited her after hours and they went ice skating together until they were attacked by a minor ice demon. After telling Rupert, Xander, Cordelia and Willow about it she went to work the next day where she discovered the manager summoning another ice demon in the freezer. This one was much more powerful, but Buffy and her friends were able to fight it with fire and by reading from the spell book the manager used. They then played in the snow left from the demon exploding (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #4).
A new watcher named Wesley Wyndam-Pryce arrived in Sunnydale to take over for Rupert in watching Faith and Buffy. Wesley had the Slayers try to retrieve an amulet of the demon Balthazar, the supposedly dead founder of a vampire swordsman cult, the Eliminati. Buffy and Faith recovered the amulet from a crypt and Buffy gave it to Angel for safe keeping. The real trouble for Faith started when she and Buffy were planning an assault on the lair of the demon. While fighting his vampire guardians, Faith accidentally killed the Deputy mayor of Sunnydale, who happened to be walking by during the fight. She tried to hide the death, and got Buffy to help her. Balthazar captured Wesley and Rupert to try to get the amulet back, but Buffy, Faith and Angel rescued them and slayed the demon and his minions (Bad Girls 3.14).
In 1999 Buffy and Angel tried to make it work as a couple again, the fact that they could not make love, combined with the fact that he had killed and terrorized her friends while evil began to take their toll on their ability to stay together. Angel finally broke it off between them right before Buffy's senior Prom. Buffy slew a pack of Hellhounds sent by a student named Tucker Wells to stop the Prom, then attended the dance where she had her last dance with Angel (The Prom 3.20).
''I'm leaving. After the Ascension. After it's finished with the Mayor and Faith. If we survive, I'll go.'' - Angel
While the students of Sunnydale High were preparing for their class of 1999 graduation, mayor Wilkins sent rogue Vampire Slayer Faith on a mission to murder Professor Lester Worth because of his discoveries of a giant dead demon. Buffy and her friends learned the mayor's ascension was taking place during the graduation ceremony and started to prepare for it. Xander learned former demon Anya Jenkins had witnessed an ascension in the past and had her give all the information she knew to the gang. When investigating the murder Faith shot Angel with a poison arrow that would kill him slowly. The only cure for the poison was to drain the blood of a Vampire Slayer. Although Buffy attempted to capture and feed Faith to Angel to cure him, Faith got away (Graduation Day Part 1 3.21).
Buffy then forced Angel to drink her own blood. Angel stopped himself from draining her completely and took her to the hospital. After Buffy recovered Angel assisted her in combating the mayor of Sunnydale in his bid to become a true demon. After the fight Angel left for Los Angeles (Graduation Day Part 1 3.21 & Graduation Day Part 2 3.22).
As Angel was driving out of town he and Buffy came to the attention of a flying supernatural soul collector who wanted to add both their souls to his collection. The creature split in two and attacked Buffy and Angel at the same time, hoping their despair over loosing each other would force them to yield their souls to him. It got the upper hand on both of them and they both nearly died, but in dying their spirits met. They realized they had to learn to survive apart and they fought back, overcoming the soul stealer (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #20).
In Los Angeles Angel hunted set up home in an office building basement and hunted vampires by night. He was approached by the half-demon Allan Francis Doyle about how Doyle receives visions from the Powers That Be and could help Angel find a mission in life. Doyle also wanted Angel to help connect to people again, to keep him for turning evil once more. The person Angel connected to was Buffy's old school mate Cordelia, who moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She was unable to find work in that field, but came across Angel. Angel saved her from a rich and powerful vampire named Russell Winters. This brought Angel to the attention of evil law film Wolfram & Hart. Cordelia helped Angel start a detective agency, in which she managed the daily affairs (City Of 1.01).
''Doyle, I don't want to share my feelings, I don't want to open up. I want to find the guy who killed Tina and I want to look him in the eye... Then I'm going to share my feelings.'' - Angel
Angel, Cordelia and Doyle teamed up to fight a burrower demon named Talamour who was jumping into bodies at a local night club (Lonely Hearts 1.02).
When Buffy sent the Daniel "Oz" Osborne with the magical gem of Amara to Angel, Spike
kidnapped Angel and told Cordelia and Doyle to get him the ring if they wanted to get Angel back. Cordelia, Doyle and Oz rescued Angel, but then Angel decided to destroy the ring because it was too dangerous (In The Dark
''I was this close to telling him everything. I mean, one more hot poker and I was giving him the ring, your mom, everything. How is your mom?'' - Angel
When Melissa Burns came to Angel Investigations because she was being
stalked by the psychic surgeon Ronald Metzler, Angel, Cordelia and Doyle
protected her. Ronald was cut into pieces and buried in cement to keep
him from putting himself back together with his powers. (I Fall To Pieces
Doyle got into financial trouble with some demons as Cordelia was shopping for a new apartment. Angel agreed to help Doyle is he found Cordelia a nice place to move into. The place they found ended up being haunted by the ghost of Maude Pearson, and as they were exercising the ghost some hit men came looking for Doyle. In the fight the ghost was destroyed, although Cordelia got a roommate, the ghost of Dennis Pearson, Maude's son who she murdered (Rm w/a Vu 1.05).
When mob big-wig Tony Papazian was captured with Angel's help, he hired a
magic wielding sensitivity trainer to throw the L.A.P.D. into chaos. Angel was also
effected and Cordelia and Doyle had to help him stop Tony while Angel got
in touch with his emotions (Sense and Sensitivity 1.06).
''My parents were great. Tasted a lot like chicken.'' - Angel
Cordelia was starting to date about this time, but despite being able to
attract rich potential boyfriends, she learned to her display she wanted
something more. She wanted a heroic man. When Doyle saved Cordelia from
a vampire attack and she became attracted to him. This was blown to pieces
when Doyle's estranged wife walked back into his life looking for a divorce
so she could marry someone else. Doyle agreed, despite the fact that the
other man was an Anomovic demon named Richard Straley. Doyle and Angel were
invited to the bachelor party, but Doyle barely survived when Richard
tried to eat Doyle's brain as part of a ceremony to insure a successful
marriage (Bachelor Party 1.07).
Learning in a vision from his partner Doyle that Buffy was in danger, Angel left for Sunnydale, where he secretly helped save her from the vengeance spirit Hus (Pangs 4.08).
''Believe me, I'm not getting the good half of this deal. To be on the outside looking in at what I can't... Well, I'd forgotten how bad it feels.'' - Angel
Angel, Cordelia and Doyle helped a group of half demons escaping the country
who were being hounded by the Scourge. Although she learned that Doyle
himself was half demon she finally gave in to her attraction to him.
Sadly their first kiss was also their last as Doyle sacrificed himself to
save Cordelia, Angel and all those nearby when a bomb that killed anything
with human blood was set by the Scourge. Doyle disarmed it but died in the
process (Hero 1.09).
Cordelia then discovered that her final kiss with Doyle passed on his gift of visions to her. As Cordelia began to adapt to her new role as the seer, an old ally from Sunnydale named Wesley showed up on their doorstep. Wesley had become a rogue demon-hunter in search of a team. With his extensive knowledge of demon lore and a bold ambition for battle, Wesley became a key addition to Angel Investigations (Parting Gifts 1.10).
Faith arrived weeks later in Los Angeles where she was approached by Wolfram & Hart about killing a vampire who had become trouble for them. As it turned out that vampire was Buffy's old boyfriend Angel. Faith also learned Angel's employees were her old watcher Welsey and one of Buffy's high school friends, Cordelia. She captured and tortured them and forced Angel into a fight, but in the end it was discovered that Faith had a death wish and wanted Angel to finish her off. Angel didn't kill her and decided to try to help her (Five by Five 1.18).
After Angel took Faith into his care he attempted to rehabilitate her. They were assaulted from all sides by Faith's enemies, including the Council of Watchers, the police, Wolfram & Hart and even Buffy, who wanted revenge. In the end Faith turned herself in to the police and confessed to her crimes (The Sanctuary 1.19).
''There is no real simple answer to that. I won't lie to you and tell you that it'll be easy, because it won't be. Just because you've decided to change doesn't mean that the world is ready for you to. The truth is no matter how much you suffer, no matter how many good deeds you do to try to make up for the past you may never balance out the cosmic scale. The only thing I can promise you is that you'll probably be haunted, and maybe for the rest of your life.'' - Angel
Angel Investigations had developed into a well-oiled demon-slaying machine. To further broaden their scope, they found a new accomplice when Angel saved the sister of a young independent demon-hunter named Charles Gunn. Although his methods were unorthodox, Gunn was a battle-hardened veteran and became an essential ally to Angel Investigations (Warzone 1.20).
As Wesley attempted to translate a passage from the scroll Angel stole from Wolfram & Hart, the the lawyers summoned the demon Vocah to Earth, who was upset at the loss of the scroll. Wesley learned the scroll said the vampire with a soul would die. Vocah decided to cut Angel off from any connection to the Powers That Be, so he cursed Cordelia with unending visions, then killed the Oracles. Vocah then took the scroll and blew up the Angel Investigations headquarters, injuring Wesley. Angel learned from the ghost of an Oracle that only a spell on the scroll could save Cordelia. Angel asked Charles Gunn to watch over Wesley and and Cordelia in the hospital as he went hunting for Vocah. Wolfram & Hart used the scroll to secretly bring Darla back from the dead. Angel then killed Vocah and cut the hand off lawyer Lindsey McDonald to get the scroll and saved Cordelia. Wesley recovered and did further translation on the scroll and discovered it said the vampire
with a soul would die
after living as a human being, which pleased Angel (To Shanshu In L.A. 1.22).
When Wesley needed contacts with the demon world he found his way to Caritas, where he brought Angel to gain information. At Angel Investigations used Caritas to gain access to demon contacts, but it wasn't long before Angel was on stage singing Mandy (673kb) for the host, who helped him find a woman he was supposed to protect. Faith was sentenced to prison and although she had some incidents with guards and other inmates, she is determined to keep from killing again and serve her time, with Angel occasionally visiting her (Judgement 2.01).
Angel returned to Caritas to sing Everybody Have Fun Tonight (619kb) when he discovered his deceased sire Darla was alive again. Despite Angel obsession over Darla, the host advised him to avoid her (Dear Boy 2.05).
Angel returned to Caritas to try to settle his Darla issues and the host sent Angel to the swami T'ish Magev to help him. Sadly a bartender overheard this conversation and leaked this information to an enemy of Angel, who had an imposter put in Magev's place (Guise Will Be Guise 2.06),
When Angel learned Darla was human and dying he took her to sing Ill Wind (2.1mb) at Caritas. The host sent Angel to a series of trials that might be able to save her life. He turned out to be unsuccessful, and she was re-sired by Drusilla when Wolfram & Hart reunited the two ex-cronies (The Trial 2.09).
After Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn were fired from Angel Investigations, they each found their way to Caritas where they got drunk and sang We Are The Champions (279kb) very badly for the host. Although they wanted guidance on the direction on their lives, the host let Cordelia's vision of a demon do the guiding for them. After slaying the demon the crew decided to keep Angel Investigations running without Angel (Redefinition 2.11).
''When Wolfram and Hart take a life, they do it at a distance. I don't have that luxury. It's time. I'm not on their level, but I can get there, and when I do, I'll be right up close. I'll bring the fight to them.'' - Angel
When someone came into Caritas, sang and the host sensed that no-one had a future after 10pm the next night. He helped Angel track down the guy and they stopped the world ending (Happy Anniversary 2.13).
''Well, you know, love it's a fire. It burns you. Alive. Down to the bone, and then it turns the bone to ash...'' - Angel
When Angel wondered what was going on with all the demonic sacrifices Wolfram & Hart was practicing around town, he went to Caritas, only to discover many of the firm's lawyers were already singing for the host. The host told him about the coming review by the senior partners, and clued Angel in on the Band of Blacknill. Despair and a lack of hope at ever putting an end to his guilt and suffering gnawed at Angel's remaining grip on reality until, in a moment of weakness, he fell into the arms of Darla. A night of passion ensued. Consequently, the couple's centuries-old co-dependency kicked in big time. To deal, Angel wound up at the karaoke bar again. This ultimately led him to a big-bang moment of clarity, and Angel reunited with his crew. (Reprise 2.15).
The host kept trying and finally did manage to convince Angel to rejoin his crew after their breakup (Epiphany 2.16).
When Angel learned that Buffy's mother passed away, he visited Sunnydale to comfort Buffy in her grief (Forever 5.17).
''Look, it's okay. I know you don't feel like it now, but you are strong, Buffy. You're gonna figure this out, and you have people to help you. You don't have to do this alone.'' - Angel
When Wolfram & Hart lawyer Lindsey McDonald wanted to know what was wrong with the hand he had recently received in a transplant he went to Caritas and sang California (1.25mb). Angel Investigations also showed up about that time looking for clues on a man who killed his family after receiving an eye transplant. The host told them they were on the same case and tried to get them to work together. This eventually lead to Angel and Lindsey discovering an organ harvesting farm Wolfram & Hart were running and destroying it (Dead End 2.18).
While the host was entertaining his audience with a rendition of Superstition (789kb) he was interrupted by another visitor from Pylea, a Drokken beast who fell through the same portal and landed on stage at Caritas. The host went to Angel Investigations to help him stop the beast. They ended up learning of a girl named Winifred Burkle who disappeared years ago and accidentally opened up another portal to Pylea. This time the host's cousin Landokmar of the Deathwok clan came to earth. They learned the host's real name was Krevlornswath, or Lorne for short. Landokmar was able to track the beast, but was bitten by it's poison. Angel slew the beast and they opened up another portal in Caritas to send Landokmar back for the cure to his poison. Sadly Cordelia was also sucked into Pylea, and ended up alone in a forest (Belonging 2.19).
Although Lorne was very reluctant to join them in rescuing Cordelia, a visit to his friend Aggie persuaded him to go on the mission to Pylea. Once there they were captured, but discovered that Cordelia had been made a princess when they discovered her visions (Over The Rainbow 2.20).
''Can everyone just notice how much fire I'm not on?'' - Angel
Wesley and Gunn joined up with a group of human rebels in Pylea. They were joined by Angel and Fred and together staged at attack on the castle to free Cordelia. Angel faced the Groosalugg in single combat, but Cordelia stopped them before Angel killed the Groosalugg, who she was in love with. With the Covenant of Tromboli defeated, Cordelia ordered all slaves freed and set up the Groosalugg as monarch of Pylea to rule in her place. Fred and Wesley were able to use the books of the Covenant to open a portal back to Earth. After returning home they found out from Willow that Buffy had died (There's No Place Like Pltrz Glrb 2.22).
Angel spent the summer on a spiritual retreat in Sri Lanka. While there he killed a number of life sucking demons posing as monks. He then returned home where Cordelia had a vision of vampires attacking some students. Angel and the crew went to save the students, but one of the vampires he had to slay ended up being Elisabeth. When James learned Angel had killed Elisabeth he went to a demon doctor who performed a ritual on him that would leave him invulnerable for a short time, then kill him, hoping to kill Angel before his time ran out. James attacked Angel and Cordelia, but they were able to hold him off until James turned to dust (Heartthrob 3.01).
Cordelia then started receiving visions that left her scared and burned. Angel learned that the missions he was being sent on were false visions sent to Cordelia by Wolfram & Hart. Lilah Morgan told Angel he had to free a man who was prisoner from a hell dimension to get them to leave Cordelia alone. Angel freed the man, but told them if they ever touched Cordelia again he would kill Lilah (That Vision Thing 3.02).
''Don't you came at me through Cordelia ever again. You play that card a second time and I'll kill you.'' - Angel
When investigating a rash of odd deaths Angel's body was magically hijacked by an old man named Marcus Rosco, leaving Angel trapped in Marcus' body at a retirement home. Marcus used Angel's body to live up life, putting the moves on Fred and Lilah Morgan. When Marcus learned Angel was immortal, he decided to keep the body and kill Angel. Wesley, Gunn, Fred and Cordelia were about to figure out what happened and helped save Angel and get his body back (Carpe Noctem 3.04).
All hell broke loose when Angel and friends caught wind of the imminent arrival of a being rumored to have a profound impact on the world. To make matters worse, Darla turned up at the hotel pregnant, and Angel was now faced with the biggest job he'd dealt with in the hundreds of years he'd been roaming the planet, fatherhood (The Offspring 3.07).
Angel set out to do everything in his power to protect his unborn child from those nasty guys at Wolfram & Hart as well as blast-from-the-past-vamp-hunter-extraordinaire Holtz. Angel's job got more and more complicated after Angel's son Connor was born (Lullaby 3.09).
Business simultaneously took off, causing the crew to split up and take jobs on their own (Provider 3.12).
When they attended a ballet together Angel and Cordelia were possessed by the spirits of old lovers and found themselves consumed with passion, which was just fine until Cordelia's old boyfriend the Groosalugg turned up (Waiting In The Wings 3.13).
Meanwhile, Angel was not acting at all sensibly, and Wesley took it upon himself to kidnap Connor to keep him safe. Unfortunately neither Angel nor Wesley could protect Connor when Holtz swooped in and nabbed the child. Although Holtz planned on raising Connor with his accomplice Justine, they were attacked by the demon Sahjhan who wanted the baby dead. Sahjhan threatened to use a portal he opened to the Quortoth dimension to kill everyone unless they killed Connor, but Holtz escaped by jumping in the portal with Connor (Sleep Tight 3.16).
Wesley was gripped with guilt and Angel was made to pay for all the dark magic he'd used to try to bring his son back (The Price 3.19).
Things went from desperate to horrific when Angel's son returned from Quortoth as a feral teenage warrior bent on killing his father (A New World 3.20).
Connor's terrible teen moments took their toll until father and son found themselves fighting side by side. Determined to set things right, Angel did everything he could to bond with Connor (Benediction 3.21).
Angel and Cordelia then went to work under cover as drug dealers to uncover a supplier of the drug called soul drops in Los Angeles. They traced the drugs back to a demon named Steglar, and learned he got his supplies from Sunnydale. Cordelia then had a vision of Buffy in trouble. Angel decided he needed help rescuing Buffy, so he got Judge Marget Brown, who owed him a favor, to release Faith into his custody for 24 hours. The two then drove to Sunnydale (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #47).
When Faith and Angel arrived in Sunnydale they were able to track the demonic invasion in the town to the old Initiative caves beneath Lowell House. There they were confronted by the Scourge. The two managed to save Xander, Dawn Summers and Anya from being sacrificed to make soul drops, but then the whole group was captured (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #49).
Angel, Faith, Xander, Dawn and Anya found themselves confronting the Scourge's new leader, Adam, who had become a living holographic computer program. Buffy and Pike were able to break into Adam's headquarters. Buffy shut down the vat making the soul drops and then the others were able to defeat the Scourge. Once Buffy learned Adam was using the gladiatorial fights to power the Initiative and his computers she was able to talk the demons in the ring in into not fighting each other and Adam lost power. Buffy and her friends then returned to Buffy's house where Xander took care filling in the Initiative caves. Angel told Buffy and Dawn he had a teenage son now. After Angel and Faith left Pike told the others the story of when he and Buffy went to Las Vegas (Buffy The Vampire Slayer #50).
In order to get his revenge on Angel, Holtz plotted his own death, and made it look as if Angel had killed him and arranging for Connor to find the body. Connor captured Angel and, with the help of Holtz's former sidekick, Justine, locked him in a box and dropped it to the bottom of the ocean (Tomorrow 3.22).
After months trapped at the bottom of the ocean Angel was eventually located by Wesley and returned to his family at Angel Investigations. As punishment for what Connor did to him Angel kicked him out of the Hyperion to think about what he did (Deep Down 4.01).
When Angel, Fred and Gunn took a vacation to Las Vegas to see Lorne, they uncovered a plot by his manager to steal people's destinies. Although Angel lost his destiny and all motivation to help others, Cordelia helped get him to save his friends. When the group returned to Los Angeles they discovered Cordelia waiting for them in the Hyperion lobby, but with no memory of her life (The House Always Wins 4.03).
Lorne acquired a magic spell which was supposed to restore Cordelia's memory. Angel, Fred, Gunn and Wesley helped him cast it. The spell went wrong and left Angel, Fred, Gunn and Wesley with the minds they had as teenagers. After some misadventures in the hotel Lorne was able to talk Fred into helping him fix the spell, and everyone's memories were restored fully (Spin The Bottle 4.06).
After Angel Investigations was given control of the Los Angeles branch of Wolfram & Hart, Harmony was hired to be Angel's secretary (Conviction 5.01).
Powers: Angel has the standard powers and vulnerabilities of a vampire. He is immortal and regenerates damage, is stronger and faster then most human beings.
He is vulnerable to holy items and sun light, and feeds on blood to survive. He cannot enter the home of a living human without being invited by someone who lives there first.
Angel's long life and travels have lead to know learning a number of languages, including German, Korean, Latin, Rumanian, Russian, Spanish and Tibetan. Angel has a very accurate memory.
Once Angel was exposed to the blood of a Mohra demon, whose regenerative powers restored Angel to human form, but Angel had the Oracles reverse time and then avoided being exposed to the blood (I Will Remember You 1.08).
For a short time Angel swapped minds with an elderly man named Marcus Rosco (Carpe Noctem 3.04).
