Shrek 2

Welcome to the summer of sequels.

While this is the first sequel I'm seeing this summer, it will not be the last. With Pitch Black, the Bourne Identity and Spider-Man all on the horizon, this is a great way to start the movies of summer.

If you remember Shrek at all, Shrek was sent to rescue Princess Fiona, though he wasn't really meant to do so. This movie, the sequel, explores the character of Prince Charming, as well as his mother, the Fairy Godmother, and how he was supposed to rescue and marry Fiona, but instead, Shrek stole her. It's actually kind of ingenius, because it keeps true to the fairytale form.

Shrek does not disappoint, even with new characters added. The funny Puss In Boots adds a lot to this new movie, but it's ultimately Shrek himself and Donkey that make this film a laugh riot. There are also many suggestions toward pop culture, which I find funny. And this movie ends with Donkey and Puss In Boots singing "Livin' La Vida Loca".

Before this movie started, they showed previews for, pretty much, all kids movies. To say that this movie is geared at children is no understatement. But there is no falsehood in also saying that this movie is perfect for adults.
