Upon first hearing the concept of Mean Girls, I, as many others probably, thought that this was going to be your typical teenage girl movie, thus not really worth my time or worth seeing. Then, I found out that not only did Tina Fey do the screenplay for this movie, but she also has a small role in it. Tina Fey? What? That funny-smart woman from Saturday Night Live? I'm there!
While this movie had its flat out funny moments, it also had its serious side to it. I think Tina Fey is using this as kind of her call to womankind everywhere, and honestly, if she is not a great woman activist of this modern era, I don't know who is.
To me, this movie reminded me quite a bit of Never Been Kissed though. Both main characters has the same "going into high school" thing that makes them sort of stand out, and learn about the cliques and how different people act within the school--- just the whole social aspect of things. While Never Been Kissed offered a message of "once you leave high school, none of this will matter anymore", Mean Girls left the message of, once you leave high school, it won't matter who said what about whom because you just have to do the problem in front of you.
Honestly, and this is not meant to be sarcastic or as a joke at all, I think this movie should be shown to every teenage girl when they reach freshman year of high school, and then again every year until they graduate.
