For Manet, he was the father of modern landscape painting. Monet revered him as his guru and the only successful painter of water. Signac regarded him as a genius and the forerunner of Impressionism. They were all talking about Dutch painter Johan Barthold Jongkind.

  Kijkduin

The quiet but attractive beach at Kijkduin is well worth a visit. Few tourists visit this lesser-known area, so here you will mostly find local visitors and sun-worshippers. You can still enjoy a lovely meal on the promenade, though! There are some nice beach pavilions and the four-star Atlantic Hotel offers you a very pleasant stay. With public transport, you can reach Kijkduin by taking bus 4 or 23, and by car via Den Haag Zuid (The Hague South).
