DJ Rainbow, born Stevi Rai Johnson, was born in Japan, due to her father being in the Air Force. They then moved to Las Vegas, when she was 8.
The first time she was ever introduced to Trance was when she was 12, by her older sister, who was a raver herself. After tagging along to raves after her, she fell in love with DJs ablilities to cause such an outstanding emotion in her. So, she began to learn how to spin Trance, with the help of a friend. She learned quickly, taking the sound to unbelievable heights, and gaining a tiny fan base in Las Vegas quickly.
Her fans, which were more like close friends, only made her want to persue it as a career more. After seeing DJ's Irene and Digweed live, at 15, she knew all she wanted to do was that. She got her first set of turn-tables as a hand me down from an older friend who was going leaving the DJ business to finally settle down.
After extensive practicing in her garage, she was finally asked to play the early 8 o'clock slot at a rave, her first big break, where she first used the alias DJ Rainbow.
"Why Rainbow? Well, I'm a HUGE supporter of Gay and Lesbian rights. Not only that, but I, myself, am Bisexual."
From that point on, the gigs just kept rolling in, one being in Japan.
"My parents had decided to take a vacation in Japan, and obviously I was dragged along. I was scoping out the scene, and I guess people had heard of me, so I was invited to play at one of the local raves in Tokyo, where I ended up meeting my good friend, DJ Fallen Angel."
Despite the long distance, the two became close friends, even more so now that they've both started to taste a bit of 'rock star' fame, before even joining a record label. Recently however, Rainbow was signed to Substance Records.
With the release of her first two CDs, the whole world has finally been able to taste the Rainbow, and they've liked what they've seen.
