The front covers are gorgeous with gilt design surrounding a great yellowing tree, spine is elaborate with gilt, design and painting of trees. The plates within are wonderful and by W. H. J. Boot. each plate is full colour and tissue protected. These copies are very nice. Some of the pages are coming loose but overall the books appear tight and pages [160 in first series and 168 in second] are bright. The books show natural wear but are not damaged. $135.00

One of the adverts is for the new issue of Scribner's Monthy, Novemeber 1879, and based on this, plus a dedication on on blank pagewritten if fine 'spidery' script, dated 1883, I am convinced this book is circa 1870-80's. This is a 1st of it's kind and the publisher claims - " Now First Correctly Reprinted fom The Original Edition of 1719. With an introduction by William Lee; 100 original illustrations by Ernest Griset". The cover of the book is deep blue cloth with elaborate design in gilt, red and black showing Crusoe in the wilderness; spine is also elaborate. The condition of the book is pretty good, the corners have wear as does the spine, including rips and fraying at the top and bottom. The binding is solid; very little foxing; frontis is a fine etching of Crusoe's habitation on the island. This is a wonderful, old book, looks and feels good. $75.00

The ffep are intensley marblized dark blue, maroon, yellow and white. The condition of the books is exceptional for the age. Each book is clean, solid, tight and intact. The covers have some wear at the edges as might be expected from a set of books that appear to have been used tenderly, but often. All the spines have a rich gilt design and and with the exception of Vol.7, which appears as if it had been pelted with stone the spines look good but do have some wear at the raised borders.
