The 2004 Olympics are being held in Athens, Greece.

This summer the Olympics are held August 13th, 2004 to August 29th, 2004. They are being held in Athens' Olympic Stadium. 400 athletes and 17 countries are attending the 2004 Olympics.

Mascots

The mascots represent a symbol of the Olympic Games to children of all ages.

2004's mascots are 2 bell-shaped cartoons; Phevos and Athena, inspired by an ancient Greek doll. They are brother and sister and are both named after Greek gods.

Torch Relay

The 2004 Torch Relay is a global series of races.

The theme is, "Pass the flame, Unite the World!" It will last for 65 days and athletes will return to Athens 78 days after the race starts. Only permanent residents of Greece who are 14 or older may participate in the races, other country's residents who are interested in being Torchbearers in their countries should contact their country's Olympic committee.

Olympic Village

The Olympic Village is where the athletes live and train for a month before the Olympics start.

These houses took 2 years to build, September 1954 to September 1956, just before the games were to begin. Homes had 2-3 bedrooms; there were 2-story and 3-story walk up flats. The government paid 2 million pounds for 780 brick and concrete houses to be built. From this village, athletes went to places to practice before the main events at the Melboune Cricket Ground.

Famous Places

The Parthenon is the most famous building in Greece.

It is an ancient Greek temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena Parthenon. It is located on the Acropolis in Athens. Although it is partly ruins now, it is still a masterpiece of Greek architecture. Williard's Bakery is a popular lunch deli that many students go to at lunch hour. Greek jewelry is also popular, several stores include Dimos, Fachidio Jewellery, and Gofas Jewelery.
