Kinjo grabs Wakanu and throws her out of the shuttle. She screams as the water rushes up at her, but screams louder as their ship explodes in an orange ball of light. Kinjo flies out, limp, Wakanu watches in horror as a piece of hot shrapnel flies at him, and pierces his back. He straightens and cries out in agony, time returns. They both hit the water hard, and she kicks feircely to the surface. When she comes up for air Kinjo is floating limp on the water, she swims over to him and turns him over. The shrapnel went all the way through, it protudes right beside his bellybutton, blood surrounds them, mixed with the water.
"..Wakanu.." he whispers.
"I’m here!" Wakanu cries desperately. "I can save you!" she lies, kicking for shore madly. "Hang on, please!" He grimaces and holds his stomach.
"Please…take..it out.." He moans.
"If I do that you’ll be dead in seconds." She replies. "When we reach the beach. Hold on to me, I’ll swim faster that way. Hold on." She wraps one arm around him and uses the other to speed herself towards the sand. He is already losing consciousness.
"Just..let me die." He groans. Wakanu slaps him.
"No! Stay with me, man!" She speeds faster, but the water rushing around his wound makes him dizzy, increases his loss of blood. She can’t stop now.
"Stop!" He pleads. "Oh, God, it hurts! Please!" He begins to faint in her arms.
"Hang on, it’ll all be over soon!" Wakanu cries at him, kicking faster, she imagines her speed in the water, her feirceness, they are almost there. He is already limp, his face bobbing, Waknu tries to hold his head up and soon they are on the beach. She remembers Nikatsha telling her that her gift was with physycal power and psychological prowess, Wakanu thanks her so very much as she carries Kinjo to shore and lays him gently on his side. The sand around him is scarlet in seconds and she begins to feel a defeated feeling creep up on her. Wakanu wants to pull the spear out, but the blood that would come with it would kill him. He stops breathing. Wakanu puts a hand on his neck, nothing. She leans over and listen for a heartbeat. None. She cries harder, for all the sufffering this world has caused her. She can no longer stand to live this way, she has to end the war.
"Kinjo, wake up, please!" Wakanu shouts in his ear. "Please come back!" She holds him close. Looking up at the sky she asks the stars to grant her her wish and let her say goodbye. Wakanu is granted one last miracle. His eyes flutter open and look up at her.
"Wakanu.." He murmurs. Wakanu manages a smile for her tears.
"Does it hurt?"
"N..no…not now…as long as you’re holding me nothing will hurt me.." He whispers. Wakanu nods.
"I’ll hold you forever, then. I never want anything to hurt you." He smiles, but then convulses once and blood spils over his mouth, his eyes begin to close. "I promise, nothing will ever hurt you. I’ll hold you forever."
"I’ll love you that long, Wakanu." He whispers, She leans over and kisses him one last time, his blood on her lips when they part.
"And I you, always." She whispers back. They say nothing more.
Kinjo dies a moment later in Wakanu’s arms.
