To Make a Mask
What you’ll need:
Paper Mashie Mix (or equal parts flour, water and a little glue), Aluminum foil, newspaper, decorative paper or ornaments, masking tape, scissors, your face (optional, you might want some one to help but you don’t need them, and an imagination.
Set up:
Lay out newspaper on your work area. Mix your paper Mashie Mix and/or flour, water, glue mix, in a bowl.
What you do is...
- Step 1: Take a piece of aluminum foil and press it against your face. Making sure to mold out the contours of your face. Once it’s crumpled into the shape you want pull it off. Set this aside. Take a piece of newspaper and wad it up to make a custom stand for your mask to rest on while you decorate. Tape it into place with the masking tape.
- Step 2: Take some more newspaper and tare off strips (the size of the strips is up to you), dip them into the Paper Mashie Mix and place them on the foil. Make sure you overlap the pieces of newspaper so they will actually stay together. Put on two or three layers of newspaper, smoothing them out (or not if you prefer).
- Step 3: take your decorative paper and/or ornaments. If paper use the paper mashie mix to apply or regular glue, depending on what you want to do.
- Step 4: Take the scissors and trim the edges, again if you want to.
In the end
- After that you can do what you want with the mask. You can cut out its eyes or mouth (if you want to do that I’d cut the eyes and mouth before I paper mashie because then I can bend the strips of paper into the holes. It looks more complete that way and the foil won’t cut your skin.
