Sunrise
By Lina Greywars

There's a story of 2 people, soul mates actually better defines..
The relationship of them both that they had for all time
There is such a thing as fate, as you'll see when this story is done
And that love can conquer anything, even the rising of the sun...

It all began back in their younger days
In a life that had no worries, no violence, and no hate
We'll start our story first with the day the two met
First grade in elementary, I believe, is where our setting is set -

They were young back then, in a world of make believe
Where anything was possible, like myths and fantasies

"Hi there", she said to him, "You look lonely, wanna play?"
"Sure", he said to her. "I'm Zel, what's your name?"
"Name's Lina Inverse, I'm gonna be the bestest bandit hunter that'll ever
be!" ****
"And I'm gonna be a great swordsman AND shaman, you'll see" ****

The two became best friends right there on the spot
Throughout the years got punished for talking in class alot
And when he started getting picked on in later days for "being strange"
She was right by his side to defend him, promising their friendship would
never change.

And from that day forth, the two were always friends
Living out their school days together, through all odds and ends.
We now go to high school, where the roads became unknown
And where decisions they made were more important than long ago

He was there for her when she was rejected by her first crush.
And she was always there for him, especially when he sat alone at lunch.
One day at such a lunch, they became more than friends.
When he asked her to the prom, and to try and give him a chance.

Typical love story, you say, This is boring, where's the suspense?
Boy meets girl, they fall in love, its any typical romance.
But it wasn't always that easy, as you'll soon see..
Let's take a look at 6th grade, when things changed suddenly.

He was on the bus to school, when a trucker crossed the road.
The truck driver couldn't stop, and hit the bus with the full load.
He was hurt the most, the fire had burned his skin.
The doctors said he would die, there was nothing more to do for him.

But a mysterious surgeon appeared, claiming he knew of a way
To heal him so that he could live to see another day.
His miracle cure was untested, and his name no one recognized
But his parents agreed to let him try - anything to save their child's life.

And through a long and grueling procedure, he came out okay
Back on track and able to live......but he wasn't the same
The miracle cure left him scarred for life with a blue skin of stone
The normalities of a human boy would be now forever unknown.

And it was hard for him to be accepted in school when he finally re-attended
But she was there no matter what, and said that she'd always be there to
protect him.
So you see throughout the years, it was tough for their friendship to remain
People looked down on him and her and didn't like an outsider in their school
domain.

So where are we now? Oh, yes, the prom. It seemed like a typical date
2 friends who went up to a higher level, and a night that it seemed would go
great.
But unfortunately it didn't go that way, it was not what they expected.
Everyone had planned a riot in preparation of the freak's attendance

She stuck with him throughout the fight, and never left his side.
They eventually made it out of it, amazingly, alive.
They were able to escape to a nearby park to take a walk
And in the middle of their stroll, he began to talk

"We don't need this place", he said. "There's so much out there to see.
I asked you to come here tonight, to ask you to join me"
He took her hand in his, and directed her to a bench not too far away
And he looked her in the eyes, and finished what he had to say

"I'm leaving here in the morning, I'll understand if you don't want to go
Meet me at this bench tomorrow at dawn, I'll be waiting for you to show.
But I won't wait up forever, because I know that's alot to ask of you
To accompany a freak on a journey that's unknown - something you may not want
to do"

"So know this now", he told her, "that no matter what you decide to do
"I'll always be your friend"....and then he whispered in her ear, "I love you"
He turned his back to leave, after looking at her one last time
Holding back the tears, for he knew he'd never see her after tonight.

She watched him walk away, with one thought in her mind
'Do I love him enough to leave it all behind?
All my memories, my dreams, and my future.....just for him?
But if I don't go along, I may never see him again..'

She thought about it long and hard, and was not sure what to decide
She only had a few hours to choose her future, and what would happen to the
rest of her life.
She thought of the colleges and the life she had her heart set for
And the scholarship...and her future, everything was perfect, she needed
nothing more

But then she thought about the future without him in her life
No one understood her better, and no one ever made her day more bright
He had also been the one who pushed her to graduate
To reach for what was out of reach, to not let her life go to waste

He had always been by her side in every turning point of her life
When she thought of killing herself...and when her mother died.
The list of things was endless, all the things he'd done for her
It was stupid of her to even consider not taking up his offer

But what she didn't realize was how much time she had spent
Trying to decide on whether or not she should go with him.
For dawn had already risen, and he was ready to accept the fact
That she wouldn't show up to join him, she probably didn't love him back..

He sat on the bench he had told her where he'd be waiting at
And he saw the sun rising over the hill, fighting to hold his tears back
He sighed to himself as he thought, 'I knew she wouldn't come'
But what he didn't know was that she was trying to beat the sun

She was on her way to the park, hoping she wasn't too late
But she saw the sun was rising, and prayed that he would wait
She couldn't let him leave her, there was so much she needed to say
But at the rate that she was going at, she'd never get there before the start
of the day

He was about ready to go, she was no where in his sight
If only he'd waited longer, she was held up at a red light.
And she finally arrived at the park, but she found that it was too late
For he was no longer on the bench, he was probably on his way

To a place unknown to her, probably unknown to him too
It would be impossible to ever find him, there was nothing she could do
She cursed herself for not being fast enough, now he was forever gone
'I should have realized sooner', she thought, 'that I loved him all along'

But she had to make sure that he wasn't there, perhaps he wasn't gone?
She scanned every park bench she knew of, even though she knew all along..
He said he wouldn't wait that long, he surely had left by now
She didn't want to face the truth, she still hoped she'd see him somehow.

She stood alone heartbroken, wishing she'd let him know
How much she really did care for him, and how she wanted to go
'But it's too late for that now', she thought, 'he's probaby miles from here'
She looked around one last time, her vision starting to blur from her forming
tears

Unsure of what to do now, she went to 'his' bench and cried
Holding her face in her hands, she didn't see the person now standing at her
side
"What troubles you?", he asked her, taking a seat in the unoccupied space
"You wouldn't understand", she said, not looking at his face

She then realized she recognized the voice of the person she was talking to
And she slowly looked up to see him there, and asked, "Is it really you..?"
"Well I must've dropped my car keys", he said, "so I came back here to see
And then I saw you sitting there....Are you waiting for me..?"

"Absolutely!" she said, "I want to go with you, I mean, if it's okay...
But please, don't go without me, I can't let you go away."
"Of course!" he said to her, "there's nothing I wanted more"
He then saw his car keys, underneath the bench on the floor

"Shall we get going?" he asked, kneeling to pick up his keys
But before he got up off the floor, he said, "Will you marry me?"
He took her hand, placed a ring on her finger, and held her hand in his
And she smiled warmly at him, and answered his question with a kiss...

Into the sunrise they went, to a place that was unknown
To begin a life of unknown destiny, but together, not alone
The gods looked down upon them, Destiny's job was done
And it smiled as they saw the couple, riding off into the sun

They eventually got married, some time later, and traveled together happily
But  what happened after that? Well, that's another story...
