chatham college: rea coffeehouse

Rea (pronounced "ray") Coffeehouse is an underground music club sponsored by Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA. Our promotional team currently consists of 3 Chatham students, but is constantly expanding. Housed in the basement of a turn-of-the-century mansion, the coffeehouse is a slice of history. Graffiti dating back as far as the 1960's covers every inch of available space; 1970's avacado-colored vinyl chairs are randomly mixed with antique sewing tables and pews. The coffeehouse blends the historical aspects of Chatham's appeal with a punk rock aesthetic. The mission of Rea Coffeehouse is to provide an all-ages venue for local and touring acts--primarily in the genres of punk, emo, hardcore and indie rock--and to offer locals free hot beverages, cheap shows (never more than 5 bucks) and a sense of community. Rea promotes a unified atmosphere by showing no tolerance to bands or audience members who preach any kind of bigotry--be it racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. This year we plan to diversify our events schedule with art exhibits, zine showcases and movie showings. Take a look around the site to learn about our team, see who's played at Rea in the past, and what's planned for the future. And make sure you click on the contact link to sign our guestbook and tell us what you think!!
