The PowerPuff Girls

The Powerpuff Girls: Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice:

Gender Roles and Expectations

Created By Craig Mcracken in their most well known and syndicated form in 1998...though their previous incarnation as The Whopass Girls had been introduced three years prior as a student film, The Powerpuff Girls is a mulimillion dollar media juggernaut that has been airing ever since. Having spawned numerous products and spinoffs, including a Japanese exclusive Alternate Universe series called Powerpuff Girls Z, the property has continued to be popular with audiences the world over.

The series contains a variety of Intertextual references ranging from nursery rhymes ("Sugar...Sice...Everything Nice") to popular music ""Meet The "Beat-Alls")...however...its use of Gender Roles and Expectations and even their own subversion make the show extremely readable on multiple levels.
