My Love's at war, far far away...

My Love's a soldier, he's far, far away
Fighting an old and lonely war
In a land that's dry and hot and hard
He's not fighting for glory, but for freedom and peace.
He's not fighting for the thrill but for what is right
He has left me at home for the love of our country

I've been told I should hate my country
For sending my love so far, far away.
But I know that what he is doing is right,
That we must go again to war
For the world to have a chance at peace.
Still, waiting at home is hard.

When I worry about him I wonder if it is hard
To find joy in a far-off country
Does lifting other's yokes bring my love peace?
Does he mind being so far, far away?
Will he come home to me from this war?
He told me he would, I pray he is right.

Critics of our nation say our quest is not right
Policing the world is expensive and hard
We'll have casualties, like in any war
Our son's blood in the soil of another country,
Their lives lost in fields so far, far away,
And this horror will not happen if we stay at peace.

However, what these critics claim will be peace
And what these critics claim is right
Is to ignore the despots and tyrants far, far away
Who build terrible weapons, & make others short lives brutal and hard.
Men who have little love for their own countries
And would bring the whole world to war.

My love is fighting to prevent a long, bloody war
He may give his life so we all can live in peace
He is a true patriot who would die for his country
Convinced to his soul that this is what's right
And while staying at home, lonely is so very hard,
I am not angry that my love is far, far away.

My love's at war doing what he feels is right
I pray for peace but know it will be hard
He loves me and he loves his country, even though he is far far away.
