I taught high school english for a while, at a school for twice exceptional students. Twice exceptional means that they are highly gifted but have a learning disability, and they are hard to teach. Joni is probably ADD and I am, hard-core. We were talking about how hard rutine tasks are. I pointed out that ADHD, in some form, is present in a pretty big chunk of the population, that there was a theory going around that people with ADHD were more likely to be hunters. People with ADD are constantly aware of everything around them, always scanning the horison, usually scattered but capable of breif periods of INTENSE hyper-focus. Olympic athletes are four or five times more likely than the general population to have attention deficit disorder. People with ADD also tend to be better at bursts of creative/intuitive problem solving. According to this theory, people without ADHD were more likely gatherers. In our society, though, routine boring tasks are how the world works and ADD is no longer an advantage.
Therefore, anyone annoying who is capable of extended periods of focus is a stupid fucking berry picker. On the other hand if you've been to the post office lately, it's pretty damn accurate.
