Chivalry is not dead
It is alive and kicking in West Roxbury. I'm as feminist as the next girl (okay, maybe a trifle more so), but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate when a man does something for a woman because he knows it's just easier for him than for her. (And, of course, doing said task without condescension is key.) It's just so ... sweet. And I appreciate when women do the same thing -- like when Jen chops parsley for me. Of course I can chop parsley, but chopping parsley is easy for Jen whereas I die a thousand deaths trying to chop that crap right. So when she offers to do it for me, it makes me happy and not grumpy and it makes me want to give her stuff.

Since the guy at Ace Auto Glass wouldn't let me give him anything, I dedicate this post to him. And I strongly encourage you, my thousands of faithful readers, to go to Ace if you ever need, well, glass.

For kids from 1 to 92
I had an incident at Target last night. I was accompanying my friend Leigh because I had a few things to pick up, and Leigh and I make a good shopping couple. I obtained the items in question, and then I found it: The Christmas decorations aisle. Now, normally, I'm not a gung-ho decorator. It's not my thing. But I love Christmas trees. I used to sit in my darkened living room and just look at the lights on the tree.

Since I've lived with Jen, we haven't had a Christmas tree. Jen's allergic to pine (we think) and Sam likes to chew, well, everything -- including, but not limited to, trees. Last night, I decided I needed a baby Christmas tree (fake, of course). And what does a baby Christmas tree need? Yes, that's right, baby Christmas tree ornaments. And baby garland. And baby lights. And baby candy canes. And a little tiny baby star to put on top. I kind of lost it in the Target, people.

Then I rushed home to decorate my tree, stringing the garland all the way around the tree and hanging ornaments (even in the back!). And then I sat in my dark living room and just looked at my tree.

Giggly
Okay, I admit it. I've been wanting to see Gigli since it first came out. 1) I have a thing for Ben Affleck. (Don't question these things, just accept.) 2) I have a thing for J-Lo. (Her hotness goes without saying.) So, despite its rapid removal from theaters, I was convinced that the movie couldn't actually be that bad.

And I was right. I still maintain that Le Divorce was worse. Of course, that's not saying much. I laughed a lot through Gigli -- just not when I was supposed to. Ben was horrible. J-Lo was horrible. The script was horrible. It was, in sum, all bad. But I enjoyed myself nonetheless. Because it delivered wretched, campy goodness in a way that few movies ever have. Sure, Showgirls tried, but ultimately failed. So, rent Gigli if you dare. And if only so you can say, "It's turkey time," to random strangers and then laugh hysterically.

Bipolar
There are only two kinds of Boston drivers: psychotic and deeply psychotic.

If I ever attempt to drive into the North End again, please feel free to use whatever means necessary to dissuade me.

Just checking
Last night, whilst innocently eating dinner, I received a phone call from my VISA card company. I'm thinking, "Fuck, how could I have possibly gone over my limit?" while, apparently, they were thinking, "Fuck, who stole her credit card?" The conversation went something like this:

Concerned credit-card man: "I just wanted to confirm some charges. I have $102.57 to a music store?"
Me: "Yeah, that sounds right."
CCCM: "$48.50 at a toy store?"
Me: "Yup, did that too."
CCCM: "$59.87 at a book store?"
Me: "Yes."

After this went on for awhile, I finally just said, "I did a lot of Christmas shopping last night." We agreed that we could then assume that the massive quantities of money spent were indeed spent by me.

Holiday blitzkrieg
I hit the mall like a bomb last night. I was a woman on a mission. I had a list, I'd checked it twice, and there was no way in hell I was leaving that packed, snowy parking lot until the shopping was done. The trick to holiday shopping is to hit hard and hit fast. Crate and Barrel -- check. Sears -- check. K*B Toys -- check. I could list every store I went to last night, but I don't want people on my gift list to get any ideas. (Jen, I don't know how to tell you this, but the factory burned down. I just couldn't get you that present. They don't make it anymore. I'm sorry.)

Suffice it to say, I left work, went shopping, and didn't return home until 10 p.m. last night. I was tired, I was hungry, but dammit, I was done. And then I remembered one other thing I have to buy....

Dude, where's my car?
Okay, so remember yesterday when I was gleefully staying inside and enjoying our lovely blizzard? Yeah, the merriment ended today when I realized that, eventually, I was going to have to leave my home and go to work. Which means I need my car. Which means I needed to find my car underneath all that damn snow. Since I'm the lucky one who gets to park next to the house, there was a large avalanche on the side of my car, making it difficult to merely back out from underneath the dune. I had to ask my neighbor to move his car so I wouldn't hit it while my car slid sideways instead of back. There was a lot of rocking, a lot of shoveling, and a lot of cursing.

And now, yay. I can go to work in the morning. Actually, the best thing about the whole ordeal was that, when I returned to the comfort of my home, the Pats had clinched the AFC East title by shutting out the Dolphins. There is joy in Jenville again.
