Georgiana's Garden - Who is She?
The Duchess

She moved with a simplicity that proved her to be unconscious of the charm which bound the world to her attraction...

The very name - Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire - recalls the fantastic regime at the end of the 18th Century. Of course today is she well remembered for being the great-great-great-great aunt of Princess Diana. The two shared many things in common, living in a galaxy of Royalty, wit and beauty, hailed as Queens of fashion, but alas, both plagued with personal heartache.

The Duchess' world was one of balls, parties, art and men and women of fashion. The Whig aristocracy that ruled, a mad King having a ghostly presence over the country, revolution stirring the world over. The ravishing Georgiana kept a dazzling court at Devonshire house where she reigned supreme with the fascinating young Prince of Wales, brilliant Charles Fox and glittering Sheridan.

Georgiana is so much more than an interesting aristocrat who influenced hat fashion. She is a true embodyment of the late 18th Century aesthetic.

She had power and influence, not just over fashion and society, but was an advisor to the future King and dared to be involved in the men's domains of politics and war. Yet all the while she was the most beautiful woman in society, the media's darling and was a wife and a excellent mother. Combining all this in her short life, Georgiana was a true feminist.

But pray, dear friends, you have spent enough time in the orangery. Let us go into the rose garden of Georgiana's life. Just click on the rose to go there. But don't forget, where there are roses, there are always thorns....
