Handwriting Sample Page 1.

First we are going to look at some very simple characteristic traits of the handwriting sample from the following page and see how they very much tie into Gratton’s personality. These characteristics are not only accurate with historical documentation but with family member accounts as well.

Slant Of Handwriting.

Notice the very forward slant in this sample from the letter for the writ that Gratton wrote in the year 1888. Grat was a very emotional person with a broad range of emotions from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. He would have probably felt emotional situations very strongly which is very much documented by Littleton and Emmett Dalton two of his brothers. This very forward slant indicates the he would have flashed to very peaks of elation, sweeping everything before him. This would validate many of the times with him exploding at saloons. This very extreme slant would also indicate that for some reason unknown to himself, he would burn out emotionally. These mood swings could be very disturbing to him.

Because Grat felt situations very intensely, he would have related to other’s problems around him. If he met someone with depression and was around them long enough he probably would have came down with the same problem. He was the type of person that may have everything plan in detail but then do it completely different when the time came to do it.

Grat was a person that needed affection strongly. For someone that is documented as being pugnacious all of the time this maybe a surprise to those out there as well as me when doing his handwriting analysis. He would have thrived on touching and being touched. He would have enjoyed being told he was loved every day and also being the center of attention too! This being the center of attention would have meant that he would tell stories that got him attention from others over and over again to do so.

Grat, if he had lived through the Coffeyville raid, may have been an actor alongside his brother Emmett. There is a strong streak in his handwriting that would indicate this with this slant. He liked expressing his feelings, what he was doing, and what he planed to do. He was a people person. Even Emmett Dalton stated that Grat was a decidable social person even though he was always alone.

He would work most efficient in a people orientated career as opposed to one that would mean working alone. Being a marshal probably gave him a very high self-esteem when he was one.

Notice the average height of the letters in this sample. People with average size letterings in the writing usually have moderate ability to interact socially. Even though he got into many fights his writing seems to indicate that he had a balanced ability to socialize and interact with others. Some of his “bad” characteristics that he had such as being pugnacious will be discussed in one trait that many might find interesting and something that some may have not know about him.

The curved section on his "m's" indicate that he had deplomacy and it was one of his best attributes. Basicly he had the ability to say what others wanted to hear. He was able to state things that wouldn't offend someone else. He could disagree with you without being disagreeable.

Stems: Signs Of Respect And Pride!

Let’s look at the height of stems on the “h” and “t” here in this sample. Grat demanded and would have expected others to treat him with honor and dignity. He would have believed in his ideas and would have expected, again, others to respect them. The tall stem with the very high “t” bar shows the pride that he had. Very high self-esteem and pride in him even though many historians belittle him in many of their books and articles. He was also incredibly brave person too! To live as a marshal in Indian Territory for as long as he did without getting himself killed showed he had smarts along with that braveness. Please not as well the sharp zigzagged "n's" and "m's" in his letter. Grat as a marshal would have been an analytical thinker. This meant that he would have examine his facts and separated them by breaking them down, organizing them from a critical point of view. This pattern of clarifying facts contributes to his strong ability to reason. Grat's mind would have been analyzing situations, all situations as a marshal and not one, all of the time.

May I add here that "t" bar is very long on the right side of many of his letters. This would be the strong sign of his temperment. Very high/hot tempered personality! This trait is well documented with many.

Seeing that the "t" bar is very high he did certainly have a very strong self confidence in himself. He was able to see things far in the future and see them being reached as well. He could have reached whatever level of success he had the desire for. A fact that I thought that was very interesting here only two percent of the population has this trait. That two percent is some of the most successful people in the world! He had the confidence to take great risk, thus reaping the rewards and if he did fail it probably wouldn't break his confidence.

Talkative Trait.

The open “a's” above that you see is a sign of a talkative personality. The open "a's" and "o's" thoughtout his handwriting indicate this trait. This would have again been backed up by Emmett Dalton’s account of him being a social being. He may have talked when there was absolutely nothing important to say. He enjoyed speaking.
