My first new page in years! In honor of "In Fear Of The Phantom" and all the updates to The Hex Girls I'm giving it it's own page. Not only have The Hex Girls reappeared, but they have updated their wardrobe and instruments and have their own manager and song writer. Also, Luna not only plays keyboard, but bass guitar as well. Clearly they are more successful than in their original debut.
The color co-ordinated outfits are reminiscent of the costumes of the different bands on the television show JEM. They are still able to show their individuality and yet be unified- Thorn's dress, Luna's pants, and Dusk's shorts. I like the purple, red, and black look.
"In Fear Of The Phantom" premieres on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:00PM and reruns at 9:30PM and all week long. "In Fear Of The Phantom" is now available on Cartoon Network's Digital Cable On Demand service. Just go to your digital cable provider's 'On Demand' page---->Kids-----> Cartoon Network -----> Scooby-Doo Mystery, Inc -----> "In Fear Of The Phantom" will be there for FREE from now until September 30th 2010.

Comic Vine reports that Daphne plays 'Crush' the newest member of The Hex Girls when she goes undercover! This is not the first time Daphne or Velma have pretended to be Hex Girls. Both of them donned bridal gowns in "The Vampire Strikes Back"!
The Hex Girls maintain their defiant rock star attitude. In "Scooby-Doo and The Legend of the Vampire" when they're confronted by the Yowie Yahoo they refuse to stop playing and are attacked and bandnapped. The spoilers from Comcic-Con said that 2 classic Hex Girls songs are redone. As you can hear "Hex Girl" is not reused like in "The Legend of the Vampire", but completely re-recorded into a whole other version.
PURE SPECULATION TIME: MAYBE WARNER BROTHERS WILL RELEASE A NEW SOUNDTRACK OF SCOOBY-DOO MUSIC! WHEN BATMAN: THE BRAVE & THE BOLD DID THE MUSICAL EPISODE "MAYHEM OF THE MUSIC MEISTER" STARRING DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D. HIMSELF NEIL PATRICK HARRIS AS THE TITLE CHARACTER. THEY RELEASED A CD/DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT VIA ITUNES OF THE SOUNDTRACK. SO IT'S NOT OUT OF THE REALM OF EXTREME POSSIBILITY. IF THIS DOES HAPPEN, HOPEFULLY THEY'LL INDCLUDE "WHO DO VOODOO?" AND "PETRIFIED BRIDE" AND ALL THE SONGS FROM THE FIRST CD, SINCE SO MANY FANS MISSED OUT IN IT'S FIRST RELEASE. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD BE MORE AWESOME WOULD BE IF LIKE THE ORIGINAL WITCH'S GHOST CD THERE WERE SONGS FROM "IN FEAR OF THE PHANTOM" BUT ALSO INSPIRIED BY IT TOO. THUS GIVING EVERYONE ALL NEW SONGS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EPISODE! BUT ALL OF THIS IS PROBABLY TOO MUCH TO HOPE FOR. It'd be nice if the fans could have music in English and Spanish. We didn't quite get a real CD release like with "The Witch's Ghost" soundtrack. Fun Fact Time: "In Fear Of The Phantom" was not the first time Daphne doubled for a famous star. Oh no, she doubled for Sandy Ducan in "The New Scooby-Doo Movies" when she starred in a Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde movie. Of course Danger-prone Daphne was kidnapped, but eventually the gang saved the day. And Sandy Duncan gave everyone cameos in her movie.

The Updated Hex Girls!
This section stars The Hex Girls' new manager Augustus "Gus" Boggs also known as "G-Man". It was mentioned on TV Tropes that The G-Man is nothing more than an "Expy" or "Exported Character". An Expy is a character from one movie, TV series, or cartoon that seems similar to a character in another. A few details like age or name may change, but no doubt the 2 are almost one and the same. Gus "G-Man" Boggs is an expy of Ronnie "Z-Man" Barzell The Teen Tycoon from the 1970 movie "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls".
DISCLAIMER: "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls" is NOT a movie for children!!!! Don't be fooled by the word "dolls" in the title! It ain't about the "Island Of Misfit Toys"! This movie was rated "X" when it came out, now it's an "NC-17". I watched the entire movie recently on late night cable and well... its a genre busting satire of 1960s and 1970s culture/counter-culture. It contains elements of romance/soap opera/slasher-horror/drama/comedy/musical all rolled up into one. It veers wildly in tone from one scene to another-(sometimes during the same scene)! And the audience is never quite sure how seriously to take ANY of the goings on. If you aren't familiar with the style of movie making from that time period, you're really not going to 'get' it. When people speak of "Sex, Drugs, & Rock 'N Roll!" they're talking about this movie! However this is the kind of film Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez loves. It's sole redeemming qualities are being written by film critic and "At The Movies" co-host Roger Ebert, the fashions being great, the women being pretty, and it's soundtrack.
But what does this have to do with The Hex Girls? The movie is about a trio of female rockers who go from nobodies to super stardom and fall under the spell of a new manager Ronnie Barzell. Like Gus Boggs- Ronnie has a faux British accent and speaks in weird, poetic, Shakespearian monologues that I can't believe anyone else understands! Sound familiar yet? The band in the movie- The Carrie Nations (who sport the ironic name of a early 20th century prohibitionist Carrie Nation, who used graffiti and wielded an ax in her efforts to combat alcohol comsumption and bars!) love, lose, live, and nearly die during the course of the film. I won't spoil this 40 year old flick for those who haven't experienced it. But there's a certain irony between Ronnie and Gus and who truly is the bad guy in their starring roles.
Who cares about all this talk! What about the music! Rest assured the musical clips I'm putting on my site are clean! Enjoy The Kelly Affair serenading the Z-Man (before he dubs them "The Carrie Nations") in "Sweet Talking Candy Man".
"Come With The Gentle People" by The Carrie Nations actually fits in with The Hex Girls' themes of love and peace. I really dig this hippy, dippy, psychedelic trip. 'This is my happening, and it's freaking me out!' Weird, right?

Another film that "In Fear Of The Phantom" has been compared to is "Phantom Of The Paradise". "Phantom Of The Paradise" is another B-movie schlock/rock musical/horror/comedy very much in the same vein as "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls". It borrows ideas from Phantom Of The Opera, Faust, and The Picture Of Dorian Gray. How is it like "IFOTP"? There's an evil music producer, a song writer turned disfigured Phantom wanting revenge, a beautiful singer at the center of it all, and lots of music. What keeps this movie from being completely forgetable is song writer extraordnaire and star Paul Williams and director Brian DePalma. Here's the trailer to "Phantom Of The Paradise.
"Scooby-Doo Mystery, Incorporated" Volume #2 DVD contains among other episodes, "In Fear Of The Phantom". The description on the back cover contains another reference to the "Phantom Of The Paradise": Quote "The Hex Girls' concert could be their swan song when a menacing spector called The Phantom starts calling the tune" Unquote. What's the name of the music producer Paul Williams plays? Swan, of course!

Las Hechiceras is what The Hex Girls go by when they tour Latin America/Spain. Who knew The Hex Girls were Bi....lingual;^). Smart move on the Girls' part, being able to expand their fan base globally and locally- first step on their way to total world domination!!!!This is the first time I've ever heard of The Hex Girls' music being translated and dubbed into other languages. Previously, when Scooby-Doo is exported to foreign markets, the diaglogue is changed, but the songs are left in English. Las Hechiceras are all voiced by Claudia Urban. Daphne is voiced by Yolanda Vidal but did not do the singing for Crush.
In "El Fantasma Aterrorizante" Las Hechiceras get name translations as well. I haven't found out what Crush's name was changed to or if it was changed at all.

Which sounds funny, but I'm beginning to like it more and more as a band name. "Earth, Wind, Fire, & Air" translates to "Mrok, Blask, Ogien, i Wiatr" which means "Dark, Glow, Fire & Wind".
