Vampire Myths

Through out the world,

you will find that there is an extensive

amount of myth surrounding the vampire.

You will also find that many of these myths

are very similar to each other.

Is there any revenant of truth behind these myths?,

or are they just wide spread tales

from those who possessed superstitious minds?

I believe that perhaps,

it's a little of both.

The myths below are cross referenced by name,

region, etc.

I have compiled the myths in this manner with hopes.

that it would make it easier for those who may be

looking for something in particular

with their search. Enjoy.

VAMPIRE: ("Vam- "pIr")

"The re-animated body of a dead person

believed to come from the grave at night

and suck the blood of sleeping persons..." Despite having definitions like this

at our fingertips,

they don't come close to summing

up the complexity of vampirism.

While once upon a time the term 'vampire'

may well have been applied to what people thought were undead bloodsuckers,

the actual vampires themselves were anything but.

Vampires are

(I can assure you)

certainly not the 'undead'.

So what exactly IS a vampire?

Cut to it's base level,

a vampire is not much different to anyone else

(on the surface)

and you have to really know what you're

looking for to notice the difference.

The difference, however,

is certainly real for the vampire,

who has to live a

'Normal'

life of work, obligations, etc,

but who also has to balance his or her vampiric nature with this.

I personally have never encountered a vampire with real fangs

(in the case of those who do have them, they are usually artificial)

and no real vampire is his or her right mind

goes around biting screaming,

unwilling virgins to death.

That is not to say that there are not those among us who drink blood,

(see sanguine vampires)

the accepted practice for this,

however,

is to draw the blood from a willing donor

(of consentual age)

and never drain enough blood to make them sick

(let alone dead).

But the sanguine vampire

(blood drinker), while the most recognizable (thanks to Hollywood),

is not the only type of vampire.

There are also those who feed psychically

(see psi_vampires).

This type of vampire feeds on psychic or 'pranic' energy

(not to be confused with a

'psychic vampire'

which simply implies a vampire of either type with some measure of psychic ability).

Once again this is not to say that there have not been so called

'Vampire'

cases where the victim has been killed

but most of these cases are just a psychopath who has been

labelled a 'vampire' by the press so that society can explain their actions

(the Vampire's Realm and the Australian Vampire Council actively condemn actions like this.

Vampires everywhere resent these people being labelled

'Vampires'

and we have to work to try to correct this error wherever possible).
