In response to the question, We believe that shutting nNpster down would cause more controversy than it is worth. Other measures could be taken.
Instead of shutting Napster down we could Have users pay and therefore pay the artist what they deserve, artists could volunteer to have their music on the server and punishments could be enforced if users violate this, and finally we could use banners on the site and let the advertisements pay the artists.
The reason it would cause controversy, shutting Napster down, would be because all the teenagers like to sample music before they buy it. If the teenagers/main customers were not allowed to sample music, then the music sales would drop and the artists would make even less money.
On another note, most musicians produce the songs they do to deliver a message, whether it is paid for or not. They want their voice to be heard, and getting people to buy their opinions is just a bonus.
