The most interesting thing you could find out would be stat growths and technique learning rates. I've heard that every character actually has a check for making each technique hard or easy to learn, no in between. Blue should, believe it or not, have every single move he can learn set as "easy." It'd be great if you could dig that up. It would let us know which humans are objectively better at what. |

I have to agree with Entity Blade, though frankly I'm just as
interested in the stat growth curve of each character as I am their
learning rates. Thank you very much for sharing the info though. The most interesting thing you could find out would be stat growths
and technique learning rates. Oh hell yes. I'm actually far MORE interested in the stat values; that's one of the biggest things I've ever been kicking myself for not saving to hard disk when I had the chance. I've heard that every character actually has a check for making each technique hard or easy to learn, no in between. Yep. It's not nearly as hard to learn a tech off your list as it is in RS3, but that's because there's no 'mastery' to pass them between characters. So the value of this list in SF is quite subjective. Blue should, believe it or not, have every single move he can learn set as "easy." For realz? That would explain a lot. Interesting (or not) trivia: this "sparking" system was first done in RS2, and had this same easy/hard list right from the beginning - only it was just plain impossible to learn something not on it. And characters from the same generic class didn't necessarily have the same lists. Tech learning SEEMED far more random than the later games, but that's only because in most cases a character simply wasn't able to learn most things, and you cycled through tons of characters. So if you didn't know who to use what with when, it would appear to have next to no predictability. --- 'Wait... stay back. He's desperate enough to do anything!' 'Heh... so am I.' |

by all means, do what you want with this info. just tell me where you
put it so i can tell you when i update it. i finished 12 of the 28, uh, columns. to get the ammunition modifiers, just add 1 to the above addresses. For weapons that never run out of ammo permanantly (firearms) the values seem to go 00-63, and for weapons that do run out permantly (rocket launchers, machine guns, lasers, mech oriented weapons) i think the values reset at 80 to zero. i found some address that look suspect. i think they might be the abilities. and 29e70-?? (00-ff to get any value between 0-511 in conjunction with the address below) 29e71-?? (80 is any value between 0-255, and 81 is any value between 256-511) in save state, these set the skill used when you attack with (AsuraSWORD). 29e72-?? (00-ff to get any value between 0-511 in conjunction with the address below) 29e73-?? (00 for any value between 0-255, 01 for any value between 256-511 in save state, these set the secondary skill usable with (AsuraSWORD) and why does the rune sword have a mirage magic attack buried in it? and why do almost all swords have pluralslash hidden in them? i haven't looked at items that are activated by mystic weapon mastery (having a monster absorbed in mystic sword, glove and boots), like the mellow ring. maybe equiping a set of mech equipment and/or abilities activates pluralslash without having learned it... and could someone equip a runesword on a high level mystic and post what happens? cure, power cure, and max cure have the same ability. |

it? and why do almost all swords have pluralslash hidden in them? The Rune Sword can cast Cockatrice when equipped by a person with Stasis Rune in their ability list. It would follow, I suppose, that most swords would have Plural Slash "unlocked" when equipped by a mec with the Plural Slash ability equipped. Check the Silver Spread, it should have Silver Fang buried in it - it's unlocked by the Fool arcane spell. --- If stupidity got us into this mess, why can't it get us out? |

The PluralSlash thing makes sense, seeing as the ability shows up
under the individual weapon in the battle menu. In other words it's "used"
with that sword and not just used when you have a sword. If this is consistent, CharmNecklace should have Seduction as its battle ability and Kylin'sSong as a locked 2nd ability, Magatama should have SacredSong as its primary, PurpleEyes PhantasmShot, etc. Incidentally, the SaGa programmers must have been going through a phase with SF where they thought the spacebar was evil. =P --- 'Wait... stay back. slashing has some meaning after all, as the game is calculating the "real"
defenses based on +/- values from it, probably when entering combat given

I found this information by looking for a specific value,
LivingArmorDEF, which is unique because it’s the only piece of equipment
with 26 attack or defense. I did some counts using xvi32, and 1A (26) was
also the equipment attack/defense that has the fewest occurrences,
something like 2,200 in a .psv save state. Way to find ability modifiers: look for distinct wp/jp costs, and search for it in save state. Way to find ability learning difficulty levels: record all information on Emelia in normal clothes, record all info on Emelia in a different costume, then compare them. I don’t have the tools to do that. I need something like zsnes’s cheat search to do that. That’s the only thing I can think of, because there’s nothing concrete I can work with, no attack/defense values, no wp/jp values. If anyone did a rom dump of earlier SaGa games and found something resembling ability learning difficulty levels, that would be really useful. |

I'm thinking that the 01 bit determines what the item in question is.
It's set to 30 for regular use items, 40 for the backpack, 00 for regular
swords, 60 for katanas, 10 for bullet shooting guns, 50 for both heavy
guns and mec parts, 20 for shields, 80 for armor, 90 for suits, A0 for
shirts, B0 for hats, C0 for gloves, D0 for shoes, E0 for accessories. The
only problem with this is that two things are classified under 50, and the
last set of items (Gold Ingot, Sactuary Stone, etc.) are also classified

These are WP/JP mods. WP Skills start at 00, JP Skills start at 40,
skills that use all JP have c8. Doesn’t LifeWave cost 2 JP? I
triple-checked that value, and it is indeed 40. Moonscraper works when attached to a weapon. It looks awesome. I don’t know if I’m expressing how awesome it is to see Asellus use moonscraper on a pickbird. Awesome. Shock works great too. Columns 16 through 1b in the equipement dump are for "trigger" abilities. 16 and 17 are the triggers for 10 and 11, 18 and 19 are the triggers for 12 and 13, and 1a and 1b are the triggers for 14 and 15. If no ability is present in the trigger bytes, then the abilities in columns 10 through 15 can be used without a trigger. 10 and 11 is the ability used when you attack with that weapon or use that item, 12 and 13 are the secodary abilites (like Lordstar's Braveheart attack), and 14 and 15 are probably for tertiary abilities. In Column 00, disposable in-battle items have 30, backpack has 40, swords have 00, katanas have 60, firearms have 10, mechanical weapons and mech parts have 50, shields have 20, armors have 80, suits have 90, shirts have a0, hats have b0, armlets have c0, boots have d0, accessories have e0, and key item have 80. In Column 04, both Glirandly and LightSword have 8a. In Column 05, both Glirandly and LightSword have 7f. In Column 0a, helmets, suits (except WhiteDress), Skelmail, JerryArmor, and DarkRobe all have 40. End Equipment Dump Updates. Story? Umm...I was at a martial arts seminar this weekend (pencak
silat, specifically, lompat minangkabau harimau) and we were working on a
particularly tricky entry--not tricky as in hard to do, tricky as in it's
like high then low then high. Anyway, I was playing uke (short for ukemi,
which in aikido at least means to like, roll out of being thrown to lessen
the impact, but we use it to mean 'the guy getting his face planted on the
floor') and I apparently didn't duck low enough. Chick I was working with
has good control though, and eased up when she realized that she'd hit me
about a half inch or so behind my temple. Yes, I totally got kicked in the
head by a girl. ^_^ What was actually worse was when her boyfriend threw me...somehow. I really don't remember what he did at all, I just remember hearing a really loud *SNAP!* sound but I didn't notice anything at first, just felt a little jarred. My neck hurt for a bit, like when you get up from lying on your back and for that little bit, you have to use your neck muscles fairly extensively, or I do anyway, but that didn't set in until later, probably as my muscles cooled down. Interestingly, this actually happened BEFORE I got kicked in the head.. xD Was probably around 110 degrees (Fahrenheit) in south Dallas, and the place we were working out in was formerly a Paper Plus, and presently has no air conditioning. All in all, I don't think a humble little masochist could've asked for much more. <3 Anyway, sorry to briefly hijack your thread Vimes. I'm still doing the last little bit of crap before college starts, at which point I'll have plenty of free time (probably going to start with 12 hours, since it -has- been six years since I've been in a scholastic environment of any kind) especially considering that the college I'm attending...well it's West Texas. Sports, sports, sports! Can't get enough balls! It was downright -BAD- hearing them talk about all the activities they have around campus. Basically, it was "We have football season, basketball season, baseball season, and we have rodeos!" Soooo....until I find some cats who wanna jam music that isn't craptastic country-pop crap I'll be in on-campus anti-social mode. xD At least the guy at the sign-in desk at orientation had seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...even if he'd never read the book. ^^ Errr, point of that last paragraph was to inform that I'll probably be trying to expand on this information if I can. But just prettying up that data should be within my reach, at the very least, and the more I look over it the more I realize....that's a ****ton of information, in all reality. You may want to delete that post and rewrite it. That censor isn't
enough to keep a mod from hammering it. That being said, none of the regs

winterking: Me, or Vimes? lawl. Vimes: Tools: I primarily use ePSXe with CEP (not to be confused with PEC) which I can link to if need be. I have played with PEC some but prefer CEP..though I think ultimately that might boil down to personal preference more than anything. XVI is my hex editor of choice but the cats at RHDN highly recommend WindHex as well, but that may be more for translation purposes (table files, et al.) I HAVE WindHex, I just haven't used it yet, at all. But XVI is free and remarkably functional, as well. I've also played with IDA Pro some, but for that you're kinda on your own. I've used the emulator pSX to a degree, but not nearly enough to get comfortable with it. The debugger aspect of it is somewhat buggy (irony?) but it's functional.
