LEGAULT'S CASTLE 2002

October 2002 was the date of the first annual Legault's Castle of Horror. Fellow worker Mike Steele and I were the masterminds behind this event.

We had several volunteers who came in on their days off and after work to build the castle and decorate the dungeon inside.

We had so much fun with this event at work, it was the biggest morale booster to date. We had never previously seen this sort of excitement and team spirit.

Together we raised over $600 for the United Way. I was in contact with local television stations and the newspaper to help advertise the event.

I made an appearance for three nights in a row as Legault, Lord of the vampires.

When the "victims" first entered the castle, they witnessed Og the Ogre who was locked in a cage. Og would break out and run after the people. Next they would be taken to the guillotine.

The hostess would then lead the wary travelers to Legault's table where he was feasting with his vampiric friends. Legault would scorn them for disturbing the feast of the vampires and ask his brood whether the people should be fed to Og the Ogre or thrown into the dungeon. The vampires would unanimously cry "The Dungeon! The Dungeon!

Inside the dungeon, the prisoners would witness an execution in the electric chair and then be taken to the laboratory of the mad doctor. The doctor paced the floors and explained that his servant had brought him the brain of an axe murderer instead of the gentleman's brain he had asked for. Now Rothstein the monster had escaped.

The prisoners would be led to the Corridor of Lost Souls where they would find Michael Myers lurking behind a door with a strobe light flashing. Ghouls would reach out for them as they hurried down the corridor.

The prisoners would be led through the swamp where young girls were sinking in the mire, crying for help.

At last, the "victims" would be released back outside where they were treated to free candy, popcorn, and Pepsi products donated by our local Pepsi plant.

We decided to carry the event over to Halloween night and I appeared as Fenris the Werecat. We explained that Legault was out searching the earth for a victim on Halloween and had left his pet werecat in the castle without feeding him.

I have never had so much fun at Halloween and look forward to doing this again for 2003.
