Spell Work

This page will be updated a lot. Spell Work is touchy, and changes depending on who you talk to. Talk to me and I'll tell you spells are simply mediums for power. Where do you get the power? Somewhere deep inside yourself. You don't need spells to do things, but they are niffty to have, because they CAN make things easier.

What makes a good spell? Well, what do you think a good spell is? Having all the right stuff to throw into the cauldron? Here's type #1, spells often don't require all that jazzy stuff. If you need to have physical objects to channel energy, then have them. But you have to pick them out for yourself. Other people need all the right words written out for them. Still others simply make it up as they go along. It's up to you.

Spell components often correspond with things like elements, scents, and colors.

The Elements:

Well, there are a lot of them, and I'm now up to listing ten, though I don't know EVERYTHING there is to know about all of them.
Earth: coresponds to the cardinal direction North. Earth is staple, and deals more closly with plants and animals than the other basic four. Color=Brown. Not green, brown!!!
Air: coresponds to the cardinal direction East. Air is good for telepathy, and communication, and weather. Color=Yellow.
Fire: coresponds to the cardinal direction South. Fire is the passionate element. Good for any passion, and packs quite a punch. Color=Red.
Water: coresponds to the cardinal direction West. Water is good for emotions and healing. It is not gentle, however. Remember that all elements reflect things in nature, and all elements have a violent side. Who wants to be caught in a tidal wave? Color=Blue
Spirit: another healer. Many people think of it as a mix of all four basic elements (listed above), but it is also a mix of ALL elements. It is simply, ALL THAT IS. One of the three offshoot elements. Color=White
Void: the exact opposite of Spirit, though they often like to flip flop. It is NOTHING. Big black hole, but it is not evil. None of the elements are good or evil of themselves. One of the three offshoot elements. Color=Black.
Growth: many people would say this is a part of Earth, but it's not. It is growing energy, and most often associated with plants. One of the three offshoot elements. Color=Green.
Gold: another Life energy one. This element is often used to described divinity, although it is much more than that. It also represents 'mind powers' like telepathy, but in much greater strength than Air. People who associate with this element heavily are considered Mind Benders. This is also one of the three meltalic elements. Color=Gold (duh).
Silver: this one I know very little about. Associates with the moon a lot, physical healing. One of the three metalic elements. Color=Silver.
Copper: the element for animals. One of the three metalic elements. Color=Copper.

Tools of the Trade:

Wand: stores energy, made of wood (hopefully of a tree you are familiar with). Make one yourself!!! Ask a tree (you heard me!!) that you know and one that has frinedly attributes (like willow or oak). Take only as much as you need, and pay the tree back. Do this in the pruning season. You can decorate/not decorate to wish. Leave bark or take off bark. You choose!! Length: 12 - 18 inches, relativly straight. Communications/buisness
Broom: yes, broom. No riding. Used for communications, gateways. Astral travel. Magickal cleaning.
Pentacle: looks like this! Can be used to envoke protection. Diagrame describing this coming soon!! Holds power VERY well.
Athame: double edged knife/sword used for stricly for ceremonial use. Usually doesn't have a sharp edge. intellect/thinking/calculation. Can be interchangable with the wand. Please note the laws about such objects in your area. Law enforcement doesn't care what you use them for, only that you have them.
Bolline: curved handled knife. Used for harvesting herbs, wands, inscribing candles, blah blah blah. Shouldn't be used for average everyday letter opener. Some people do use them also in the Kitchen.
Insence: well, this is niffty. Works like colors to set moods and correspondance.
Cauldron: symbol of the Goddess, transformation. Use a nonflamable/meltable substance for yours. Can be used to melt wax, make perfumes, and scrying, and various other things.
Please know that this is in no way a total list. Everyone uses different things for diferent purposes. Discover a few of your own!!

Magick Circle:

A type of shield between you and the energy you raise and the world. A very niffty thing to have if you don't want whatever your doing to get into the rest of the house.
Components: the workspace you will use for whatever your doing (altar works great, or just a table or even the floor or your bed), and representations for the four basic elements (Spirit is optional). These can be something like a candle, or simly something the color of that element. You do, however, need water for water and salt for earth unless you want to totally chuck with the phyisical trappings and get on with it. But this spell is made for all the physical trappings.
Lay out your four objects, with Earth in the North and so on. If you use a candle, light it. Cleanse these objects. Ex:
I cleanse and consentrate this_________for positive means. All negativity is removed from it in any time and space.
Do in clockwise order starting with Earth. Next add three pinches of salt to the water. Stir clockwise three times. Feel the water gaining energy. You might say something. Ex.
This liquid is now pure and dedicated to ________.(ex. Lord and Lady, Powers That Be or diety of your choice)It is free from all negativity in any time and any space.
Next, you use the four elements to start building your shield or wall. Use all four elements, starting with earth and moving in a clockwise order. You'll take each object and move it three times around (moving clockwise) the area you wish to seal off. Things you might say:
Dirt, dirt, as I walk this place
Powers of Earth, cleanse this space.

Sweep, sweep, sweep this place
By Powers of Air I cleanse this space.

Light, light, I light this place
By Powers of Fire I cleanse this space.

Liquid, liquid, I wash this place
By Powers of Water I cleanse this space.

(Spirit, Spirit, fill this space
Powers of Divine, consecrate this space!)

When you are done, hit the floor three times and say:
As above, so below.
When move outside the circle, but don't want to take it down, simple cut a door with your finger, and exit using the door. Make sure to CLOSE the door after you. Don't worry if your pet comes into your circle, they won't do any harm. When you want to take down the cirlce, walk COUNTERclockwise three times (see, your REVERSING what you did!!). You might say something like:
This circle is Open, but Never Broken.
Adapted from Silver Raven Wolf.

Bless this House

Comments: this is a VERY simple spell, that only takes a second to do. You can do it once a day, once a week, every once in a while, or when you feel the need. I've found this very good for keeping tempers in check in my family (we're a very tempramental lot).
Tools: Just yourself, and something that reprents a house/home to you. I use a miniture Christmas House (you know, one of those light up ones, but I've taken the light out). You can use somthing else. It doesn't have to LOOK like your house. This house can be placed on your Altar (if you have one), or somewhere else.
Put your hand over your house and say the following words:
Bless this House, and all who reside herein.
That's it. Yup, just that. Or some form of that, it doens't really matter. All that matters is that your intent is clear. You don't even have to say **insert choice of diety here** to bless the house. Your energy will suffice.
