Greetings I am the Vampire Lestat I was born November 7th in a
small village of Auvergne France in 1760 the son of a country
marquis yet I held no claim to his title for my eldest brother would
fill that position so my destiny appeared to be written to spend my
life at the family castle hunting to feed the family. Twice I tried
to escape this fate but was returned both times so I looked to the
holy orders for answers and possibly become a monk but my father
opposed this and I was forced to come back to the castle. I
attempted to run away with a band of travelling entertainers and
dicovered I wanted to be an actor but alas once again my family
dissaproved. Eventually I accepted my fate and spent my time hunting
on my father's land then one fatefull day I went off to kill the
pack of wolves that terroroized the nearby village I got on my horse
and gathered the dogs and headed to the mountains where I killed
eight wolves but not without the cost of my horse and dogs. My life
changed the first time with the presentation of a gift to me a red
cloak lined with the fur of the wolves I had killed and the
development of a wonderful friendship with Nicolas the son of the
draper who presented this gift. In 1779 we moved to Paris together
so I could become an actor and Nicolas a musician and we both found
work in Renaud's Theater and it was on that stage where my true
destiny first caught a glimpse of me and that pale face would burn
it's image into my mind for just as I had ended my life as Lestat
the wolf killer I was to end my life as Lestat the actor and start
my long walk down the road to Lestat the vampire.
The Vampire Lestat Audio
BookMore of The Vampire Chronicles
where dark pleasures and glorious decadence abound. Anne Rice once
again creates the hypnotic, mythical world of the undead. Here is
the story of the dazzling and seductive vampire Lestat, whom we
first perceive as evil incarnate. We travel with Lestat from the
licentious Paris of the 18th century to the pagan courts of ancient
Egypt to the frenzied 20th century world of rock superstardom, as he
elusively searches for the roots and meaning of his own immortality.
As he does so, our sympathy is more and more engaged and we come to
recognize that he is, in fact, a questing romantic, a vampire hero -
with his own strange and passionate sense of courage and morality.
The Vampire Lestat is Volume 2 of The Vampire Chronicles.
