The words had cut through him like a knife as he played them over in his head. Howie was right. He couldn't fix the alcohol, he could fix the smoking, But he couldn't fix a baby. Turning over he stared at the empty space beside him. Howie should be next to him but he wasn't. He had awoke, somehow hoping it had all been a bad dream but it wasn't. Sitting up he pulled on a t-shirt and quietly made his way down the stairs. Entering the kitchen he groggily poured a cup of coffee as he turned startled to see Raine. Taking a seat he remained silent as he watched the steam slowly rise from his coffee.

"You hate me, don't you" said Raine breaking the silence.

"I don't hate you" said AJ.

"I've caused trouble between you and Howie."

"No, everything is fine. He just didn't count on an extra roomate. First order of business is getting some food in you and then finding you a doctor. You have been seeing a doctor, haven't you" said AJ.

"I'm not neglecting the baby."

"I was just asking. Stay put, I'm going to see if I can find a phone book" said AJ.

"What I can't got to Hawaii while your gone" said Raine.

"No you. Very funny. I can see my child is going to have a sense of humour. Obstetricians, geez their's a whole frickin city of them. Pick a letter."

"What?"

"A letter from the alphabet" said AJ.

"S."

"Here we go, Heather Shapiro. Be quiet while I talk" said AJ.

"Dr. Shaprio can we help you?"

"I need an appointment for my girlfriend" said AJ.

"Has she seen Dr. Shaprio before?"

"No" replied AJ.

"Our first opening is in two weeks."

"Two weeks. We need an opening today" said AJ.

"Is she experiencing any type of problem."

"No. Look, we really need an appointment" said AJ.

"We had a cancellation. If you can be here in fifteen minutes we can see you."

"We'll be there. Come on" said AJ.

"I'm not going anywhere. One minute your looking up obstetrician's. The next minute your shoving me out the door for an appointment. Why are you in such a rush for me to see the doctor" said Raine.

"I want to make sure the baby is ok" replied AJ.

"So you just concerned" said Raine.

"Yes, now come on."

"Fine" said Raine.

"Howie, you know I would never pry but what happened between you two" said Brian.

"I'm not ready, he cheated on me Brian."

"God, I'm so sorry. Is he seeing someone?" asked Brian.

"No, it was only one time. How am I supposed to forgive him Brian" said Howie.

"I don't know."

"I couldn't stay. I had to get out of there" said Howie.

"You know you can stay here as long as you need too" said Brian.

"If you don't mind I think I'm going to go lay down for awhile. I didn't get much sleep last night" said Howie.

"Go ahead, I think Leighann and I are going to stay home and watch some movies" said Brian.

"Excuse me, we have an appointment" said AJ approaching the desk.

"You must be the man who called a few minutes ago. You can come on back, I'll need you to fill these out while your waiting."

I don't know any of this freakin medical information, you fill it out" said AJ handing her the papers.

"I don't any of the freaking information either, I was adopted" said Raine.

"Good morning, I'm Dr. Shapiro. You must be Raine. And let me guess, you are the father."

"We don't know yet" said AJ.

"You just moved here."

"Yeah."

"Have you been seeing a doctor regularly" said Dr. Shaprio.

"Every two weeks."

"Then I'm sure you know this is going to be cold" said Dr. Shapiro squeezing the liquid onto her belly.

"I think I'll wait outside" said AJ. Closing the door behind him he took an empty seat in the waiting room. "This would all be over soon. Raine will go back where she came from. Howie will come home and our lives will return to normal" AJ thought to himself as he looked up to see Raine.

"You got what you wanted. Here, read them. They prove I'm not lying" said Raine angrily.

"Raine, wait" said AJ catching up to her.

"How could I have been so stupid. You didn't believe me for one second did you? asked Raine.

"I'm AJ McLean. Do you know how many freakin women try and take advantage of me" said AJ.

"You, should have believe me." said Raine her head growing dizzy

"Are you ok, is it the baby" said AJ.

"I'm fine. I just got a little dizzy" replied Raine.

"Dizzy is not good, sit. I need to tell you something that maybe will help you understand why I doubted you."

"Go ahead, I'm listening" said Raine.

"I'm gay" said AJ.

"What?"

"Howie and I are together."

"I don't believe this. Your serious" said Raine.

"That's why he..."

"Your going to tell me know, that what. You didn't know you were with a woman" said Raine.

"I knew what I was doing and who I was doing it with" said AJ.

"Great, that makes me feel a whole lot better. Can we go please" said Raine.

"Sure. Look you need some to absorb all of this. I'll drop you at the house while I take care of a few things" said AJ.

Watching as AJ's car drove out of site. She placed the pack over her shoulders. She had to get out of here. She needed to think. She had wanted to give this baby a home. He would need someone when...God, why did it have to happen this way. It was evident AJ did not want this child. If only she could make him see he had to accept this baby. She wanted to tell him the real reason she showed up on his doorstep but he couldn't know. Not until the time came. Then he would understand everything.
