It is 3 a.m. Justin is awake in bed. He is thinking about their concert in Indiana. It was their last concert of the tour. They were on top of the world. Nothing could stop them, or so they thought. He would have thought they were ready for anything. And then it happened, that fateful night that would teach them they weren't ready at all. It's dark, very dark. He wants to open his eyes but he is afraid. He has been afraid for awhile now. He knows something is not right but he's not sure what. He lays quietly waiting for the voices to cease as his eyes slowly open. The light is bright, it hurts his eyes but he is awake. Finally awake. The room is cold, like the North Pole. He wonders if that's where he is, the North Pole. Maybe he can see Santa and ask him for the Hot Wheels set he has wanted. The bed is hard, it feels like rocks. He remember's Santa put's rock's in your stocking if you've been bad. Maybe he has been bad. Their are tubes in his arms they pinch his skin. He pinched Sally once and she hit him. He wanted to hit her back but Mamma said he couldn't hit a girl. The tubes connect to balloons. They drip water. One, two, three four, like raindrops. They are fun to watch. His finger hurts. Why is their no Band-Aid. Owwie's need Band-Aids. Their is a machine in the corner. The wires run to it. It has letters on it just like the alphabet. He remembers the alphabet. A, B, C, D. This message brought to you by the letters A and D. Their are lights on the machine that flash. He dosen't like them, they make him dizzy. He got dizzy on the Ferris Wheel. He didn't like that it made him cry. Their are more balloons. They hang from the window. They don't drip. Why don't they drip, he wonders. He can see paper it is hanging from the wall. It has letters too. They spell a name. J, o, e y. He wonders if his name starts with J but he's not sure. He hasn't been sure of anything since the dark man came. He was bad, he took away the light. He must get up before the dark man comes back. Slowly he clutches the bar as he forcinc his body to move. Raising his shirt he can see tape and Band-Aids. Lots of Band-Aids. He must have a big owwie. Clutching the bar again he stands. Right foot out, right foot in. Left foot out, left foot in. The wires are gone. His arms hurts. Their are noises, loud noises. Make them stop. The light is fading. Make it come back, please no more dark man.
What's going on."
"I don't know, all the alarms are going off in Mr. Fatone's room. Rushing down the hallway nurses entered the room to the screams of Joey.
"Bad noises. Noises are bad, make them stop" screamed Joey.
"Calm down Mr. Fatone. It's ok, you just pulled out your IV's" said the nurse.
"Dark man is coming to take away the light" said Joey.
"Someone get a doctor. Tell them he's awake. Just like back it's ok. We're going to get these IV's back in you" said the nurse.
"No, no more oowie."
"It's just a little stick, it's ok" said the nurse.
"Your mean, very mean" said Joey pouting.
"I've been considered worse. You know we have been waiting a long time for you to wake up. Your friends and family are going to be so excited" said the nurse smiling.
"I got word that our patient was finally awake" said Dr. Camden.
"Yeah, he was getting ready to bolt out of here" said the nurse.
