Courses of Steam
(walker)

when the coals have warmed themselves you can hear
the waves and feel the steam underskin
as engines spin and off pushes pine
and steel, the wheel is fixed where it rots
we're in for the long hereafter and you can
say how you'll miss me as I'll float away
and drift with the salt and the storms and the sea
will bury me a new home six feet
under shoreline and under flat stones and
we shall wish for peace we lost and our tears
will muddy the glass and shadows will
finally sleep their steam-driven sleep

oh look at here we can see your face
through the shells and you've saved your money
to weep with the sand on your beach
and the steam rolls out and you know
that convenience buys all our stocks
and i'll keep my shares in the waves
and leave them dead with me when i see
that you've drained me clean
with the salt and the sea
and you'll smile drearily knowingly
that you've drained me clean
with the salt and the sea
and you'll smile drearily knowingly
that you've drained me clean
with the salt and the sea
